Well, I finally got two more Rod Studs to install in the poor thing, and now I wonder, how the heck do I get them back in there? They weren't hard to remove, held down the rod and tapped the broken one out with a hammer, but putting the new one in is proving to be difficult. Is there anything special you need to do to get them in? I realize that the Rod is grooved so that the Stud is meant to go in flush and only one way, but when I push it in, it goes down til it has about 1/4" left, and then stops. Any ideas or thoughts on this?

Find a vice and a deep socket that will fit over the stud as it's coming through the rod. Put all three in a large vice pressing on the head of the stud and the back end of the socket. Crank slowly on the vice and it will push the stud the final 1/4". Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try that once I find my vice that's big enough for it.
Out of curiousity, what are the splines on the stud for? I thought they might be for holding the stud in before, but after looking at the hole it goes in, I saw no cooresponding grooves for it to thread into, which leads me to believe it's to allow oil passage? That could be totally wrong, but I'm curious to know what it's for.

Those are anchoring splines. They get swedged (smashed)when you press in the bolt, and they keep the bolt from turning. Take all the parts to any hardware store and ask for a demonstration of their big vice.

From what my machine shop told me, you have to resize the rod any time you replace the rod bolts. Food for thought...

When I replaced mine, I just put it in as far as it would go, then used the nut to tighten into place.

Just don't over torque it past the limit, you might strip the top of the bolt that stops against the rod. That was the whole reason I had to replace mine, it didn't want to come back out. It just kept on spinning and spinning.

Well, I did a mixture of both methods, used a C-Clamp to push the Bolt a bit further down (had a hard time fitting it up there.) then tightened it the rest of the way with a nut, and suffice to say, it's worked quite nicely. Thanks all for the help :D
