Today I went and looked at a 92 SHO for sale. It's kinda a beater and its been sitting for a while. Anyway, one of the things that's wrong with it involves the shifter. The shifter end of one of the rods is laying on the ground. The guy said that he had to get the part on the end (which I believe to be the shifter socket) custom made (for $500!?!). The socket had a bit of rust on it. He said he lost the black plastic cover that goes over this assembly. I don't have another rod shifted car to compare it to, and I don't know exactly how its supposed to look or work.
I wondered if somebody could explain how these parts work and what would most likely be involved in fixing it if I bought the car (what and where would I need to buy it).
