my SHO has spun a bearing. I haven't pulled the pan off yet but I'm about 90% sure its stacked. I was thinkng getting a junkyard motor and doing a quick 60k, rod and main bearings. What do you guys think? is it hard to swap bearings. I know I can do the 60k and swap the motor but I have never worked on internals. The motor comes with tranny and is about $450.00. any advice on the bearing replace ment or the situation in general is appreciated.... and yes I an dead set on keeping the car.

If you get the used motor it will be very simple to change the bearings. Plus you won't have that oil dripping on your face and in your eyes. $450 is a nice price with tranny.

I think it would be a very good idea to do a 60K and rod bearing replacement on the junkyard motor when you have it out..... it will eliminate many space restriction problems!

I would do both. As far as the job itself, rod bearings is easier than a 60k. Swapping an engine is not. Drain the oil, drop the starter, y-pipe, and oil pan. Pull the oil pump pickup and windage plate. Get some Clevite rod bearings from wherever. One at a time, pull off the rod end, push out old bearings, slide in new. Reassemble & torque. 4 hours tops. Plus all your oil leaks disappear.

Then take your junkyard engine and trans, overhaul it completely, build the crap out of it, Quaife it. Drive the bejesus out of your original power plant until it ejects a diff pin. Install fire-breathing monster. Repeat.

If you can swap an engine you shouldn't have any problems changing the rod bearings... me and my friend just did the same thing on his replacement motor after we found out his old motor was completely missing one of the connecting rod bearings. Yeah the oil pan was a mess! I don't think the main bearings would be a requirement for the new motor as they rarely fail. But if you are confident in being able to change them then by all means go ahead and do so.

thanks for all the advice. I am planning on pulling the pan off before I pull the motor. I think the crank might need machining, so I'm not sure if I can just put the bearings in the stock motor. We will see soon enough i guess.
