Ok so I bought a can of R134a that came in a kit with a gauge, etc., figuring that my trusty Chilton's would have a nice pic of where to hook this baby up.

Nope. (bs about a/c stuff not being covered in this manual because a/c systems should only be serviced by professionals, blah blah blah...)

So, since I don't really want to pay $$ to take it somewhere as I've got other probable SHO-related expenses in the near future (front end stuff) I was hoping some kind soul would snap a pic and do a photochop with a nice big circle stating "hook it up here, st00pid!".

any help would be appreciated

thanks,

Scott

There are two connections (sorry no pic's) one is just left of the oil fill cap the easy one to get two. and the other is straight back under the cowl by the strut tower you should see the plastic cap. notice I said see because it's a pain to hook up too. your kit will only fit the low side fitting and you guessed it that's the one in the back.

Now for the blah blah blah..... it does not work because there is a leak. I know this is the real world and 134 is cheap. but if it is too low the system will have gotten moisture in it and will not work to it's highest potential as the moisture will freeze at the core ( work well for 5 minutes then roll down the windows it's going to get hot)

as a rule maximum cold air output at the vent is about 30-34 degree's below ambient temp give or take a little for altitude

Thanks for the help. :)

The a/c isn't dead, it just needs recharged. It works fine up until it hits 90+ degrees out then it has a little trouble keeping up sometimes.

ROFL - hope the hose on the gauge/can of freon is long enough. :p

Thanks for the pic - haven't had time to work on it yet as relatives who came back for the 4th and a family reunion on the following Saturday JUST LEFT. Nothing like having a house full of people disrupting your daily routine. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't wish half of 'em would step in front of a bus...

Anywho. Hopefully I'll have time to check it out after work today. I do need to jack up the car again to check out a funky rubbing noise that's been coming from the front for the last few days. (wheel bearing? hope not)

The blue cap is the other side of the AC for reference

It took the whole can and is sitting at 43-44 lbs pressure on the low side @ about 82 degrees ambient (according to the probably not-so-accurate temp gauge in the garage).

The can was one of the oversized ones that included the freon, stop leak and oil in one package.

It seemed to blow pretty cold - we'll see how it fares next week when the temps go back up. (gotta love nebraska weather)

After looking at Paul's pics I just remembered I forgot to put the dust cap back on...

I'll have to pick up one of those cans too. I'm sure my A/C pry has never been touched and it gets cold, but just seems to take longer than it did 2 years ago.

Glad I could help
