Well, the new alternator on my '89 SHO just failed after three weeks. Regulator failed, voltage increases until it reaches 18V @ 3000RPM which shuts down most of the electronics.

I'm having a warranty replacement put in, but I want to rebuild an alternator myself so I know its done right. Been 20 years since I've done it. Can someone tell me who makes the best alternator rebuild kit? Who makes the best regulator, diodes, brushes, etc?

Just a thought. I don't know who makes a kit, my brand new alternator started overcharging because I didn't have the charge light hooked up or even a dash when I did a swap, first alternator was an original, overcharged, second was a Carquest brand, same problem.

Once I wired up the bulb (which also has a resistor in parallel soldered to the dash), the voltage came down from like 16v to 14.7 at idle. Mine was a 93 3 wire, yours should be a two wire, you'll have to look at the wiring diagram.
