Rear Quarter Window Rotted Rubber Trim

I have an '89 and my rear-quarter windows (the triangular jobbies) rubber trim is all rotted out. I'm afraid to pull them off for a full-up repaint because I'm afraid they will just disintegrate.

Ford does not make 'em any more. Any ideas as to how I can replace them?

Im not going to be much help at all on this subject, my 93 is the same way. Its not smooth anymore its like it has pores or something. Mustangs have the same problem and most body shops will actually sand them down and put filler in the spots that are little holes like pen tips. Then paint them black. Since its a discontinued part that might be your only way out. Sorry if i wasnt much help

yea that trim is a *****. My 93's was all rotted out. Had a bunch of bubbles and dandruff spewing out from behind them. ick

Those moldings were faulty from the start. The moldings on my 1991 were porous from day one. it looks like a manufacturing flaw from the vendor that used poor grade rubber and not enough to fill the mold. I have seen many SHOs with the condition.

What I am thinking of doing is making a clay impression mold of the molding, then to pour a silicone rubber replica.

That way I could preserve the exterior "look" of the moulding, although I'd still have to come up with an alternative way to mount the window to the body. I'd then soilicon-glue the silicone-cast moulding to the window itself.

I suppose in some kind of way I'm glad to hear that. Mine are pourus as well, and I thought it might have been because the previous owner had used a petroleum-based rubber/vinyl treatment on them. Now I know it's just another SHO thing.
