it depends a great deal on the condition of the syncros - its hard to find a SHO mtx that has good syncros, so they are handicapped by that. And, how the SHO shifts is significantly dependent on the condition of the clutch, in my experience.
the Ranger trans 2-3 shift particularly is easy to miss or grind when shifting fast, because the gate is too wide. and, it is virtually impossible to power-shift a Ranger trans.
you will be able to tell how it works by driving a Ranger - it won't be that much different connected to the SHO motor, just a little harder to shift at the high rpms. and, you will want to check the condition of the 2nd gear syncro in the exact trans you want to use, if possible - the relatively larger ratio change from 1st to 2nd and the high rpms of the SHO motor means the 2nd gear syncro gets a real workout.
I'm not saying that the Ranger trans is bad, I'm just saying it won't shift silky smooth like you would expect an integral-shifter trans to shift.
