I herd mine knocking and here I am 14,500 miles later replaced mine at 199K the entire bearing had copper showing on the crank side and much of th back of the bearing had copper showing so that leads me to believe that I was very lucky.
the knocking wan't very loud just but was very noticeable on cold startups (30 or below) it only cost 67bucks and 6-8 hours on jackstands with hand tools so if you hvae any doubt just do it. there are tons of writeups on how to do them jsut do a search and you'll come up with 2 or 3 good ones.
