Join us on Tuesday, July 19th at Beech Bend Raceway for some 1/4 mile action. This will be a private event - so PLENTY of track time available!
Safety Information: A helmet is required for cars faster than 11.99. There are no specific clothing requirements.
We'll start with some open Test-n-Tune time (1-4 pm), followed by our King of the Hill (KOTH) Competition (4-5 pm)! There is NO requirement to compete in the KOTH. You may just run Test-n-Tune if you desire.
If you have never run at a dragstrip, and/or have never been in a Bracket Race, this is an excellent time to try it! Plenty of SHO folks are here to help you. Being a private event, it will only be SHO folks in attendance.
If you want to learn more about Bracket Racing, here are two informative articles about the dragstrip & Bracket Racing. Click here and here.
King of the Hill will be a Bracket Racing format. You don't need to abuse your car! Your Reaction Time (R/T) at the tree and running closest to your dial-in time will be the winning combination! In fact, for the MTX cars on street tires, practicing a street start, with little or no wheelspin, can be the ticket to running consistent times.
The Test-n-Tune period is a great time to practice your Reaction Time, and decide what you want to use as your Dial-in. Your Dial-in is usually slower than your quickest, but it is the time that you can run the most consistently, without breaking out (running quicker than your Dial-in time). The winner is the driver who gets the quickest R/T without getting the dreaded Red Light (starting too soon, before the Green light). And then runs the closest to their Dial-in time.
We will provide white shoe polish to set your Dial-In, and to change it between runs, if you desire.
BYE Runs: In case there is an odd number of cars in a class, the first BYE Run will be determined by drawing a name. On subsequent class runs, the driver who runs closest to their Dial-in gets the BYE Run. In the very rare case of a Tie, we will then look at who had the lowest R/T. All you have to do on a BYE Run is run through the lights for a time. You can Red Light, run faster than your Dial-in, and it doesn’t matter. BYE Runs are a good time to get in some practice before your next run.
A Red Light means that you automatically lose. With most modern TruStart timing systems, if both drivers Red Light, the worst offender gets the Red Light. If both drivers break out (run faster than their Dial-in), the winner is the car that ran closest to their Dial-in.
Classes and Awards will be for:
- SHO MTX Winner
- SHO ATX Winner
- Non-SHO Winner
- Overall SHO Winner (MTX vs. ATX)
- King of the Hill – Overall SHO Winner against the Non-SHO Winner
The SHO Club began running the KOTH Competition in 2002, and we have run it whenever we had the opportunity to include a dragstrip at the SHO Convention
