Preparations to run E30

Hey guys. I’m getting a HPFP from LMS along with their E30 tune. My questions are related to the logistics of running E30. I’ve got a gas station not too out of the way that offers E85 that I’ll be able to use to blend my gas. I’m prepared to use the necessary formulas to calculate my mixture and then test to confirm it’s correct but I really want to figure out a better way to store and transfer the fuel. Right now I’ve got a 13 gal portable fuel caddy along with 5x 5 gallon gas cans that I’ll be using to actually fill up at the station and bring back home. Then I’ll mix and put in my 13 gallon caddy. The caddy only operates on siphon though and it would be PAINFULLY slow to fill up using this method. Are there any good ways that you guys have figured out to address the filling / storing / mixing of E30? Do you keep E85 in the trunk and add the proper amounts at the 93 pump to result in a full tank? My wife daily drives our SHO as well so I don’t want the process to be incredibly complicated or she’ll regret running the E30 tune. Thanks!!

Why are you spending almost $1800 for a E30 tune first off? You don't need the LMS HPFP regardless of LMS says especially in Florida.

Second off, there are many fuel calculators online that are literally plug and play with infomation. I very rarely use containers. I go straight from the pump. I use the calculator I was given from my tuner, and use the enhanced setting in the trip feature and go from there with fuel used since full.

Example: I have 91 octane here in AZ. I also have E54 (flex fuel). I know I usually fill up at 1/4 tank and that is roughly 14.5 gallons. So 7 gallons of E54 first goes in (helps mix) and 7 gallons of 91 octane gives me E32 which is has a octane rating 98.

I also keep eight other tunes in my LiveWire TS+. Five e30 tunes (mild to wild) two 91 octane tunes, and one stock 3 bar tune. If I am in a position that I cannot get any "E" product I load one of my 91 tunes right there.

I’m already running into fueling issues due to my factory HPFP being unable to supply enough pressure at WOT. If I’m already gonna be upgrading the pump for my fueling issues, I figured an e30 tune while I’m at it couldn’t hurt.

Your fueling issues are a LMS problem. It is documented. I would do your homework with the numerous threads on here with people's documented issues with LMS.

Yes go into your trip mode and I believe press the right arrow on your steering wheel. It will come up with standard or enchanced. Choose enchanced and you can see how many gallons of fuel you have used since your last reset.

I have an E30 tune, I don't have fuel pressure problems at all. My car is faster and makes more power then most full bolt on and meth LMS tuned cars.

The LMS tunes don't like the cold as SM105K said there are a few threads about this. LMS won't tune for e30 on the stock fuel pump so if you are set on staying with them then you will need to upgrade the HPFP, which isn't the worst thing while running e blends anyway. If you are open to other tuners you will most likely be fine with e30 on the stock pump at least in the warmer months but you are in FL. Consider data logging to verify everything is safe a necessity at that point.

These engines were originally tuned for E0 to E15 and 87 octane. I've been running up to E30 on a stock tune. They have a fair amount of flexibility to work with. That's what LTFT are for.

Even with a E30 tune, you have some cushion and don't have to be dead nuts on 30% ethanol with the blend. Just blend it at the pump and don't bother with getting it perfect.

No doubt that E30 will run stronger, but why go through all the trouble of running it if the wife will have to be cautious if she were to run low/out of gas? If you have 93 readily available, I'd just run that 100% of the time and keep it simple. I have 93 near my work, but I WFH'd all last week and had to switch back to my 91 tune because I didn't want to drive 30 miles to get 93. I'm LMS tuned and happy, but certainly check out AJPTurbo and Gearhead because they have some really solid tunes.

Just tell wife - run it to empty, 5 gallons E85, and top off with premium. Saves money, more power.

My favorite gas station by my house sold 93 octane, there were just bought by Casey's and they only have 91. Wondering how much e85 I can mix with 91 to get 93+ Or if the mixture would be too high of e85 and cause problems....?
