plug wires not seating

ok today i went to town to the junkyard and got some things for my friends car. when i started the sho it went to a really low idle, like 500 rpm and died. so i started it again and it did the same thing. we poppled the hood and noticed my #4 cylinder plug wire was unseated, so pushed it back down. started it up, still idling hard, so i looked at the back plug wires and the middle one was off, so i pushed tha back on and it was fine all the way to my friends house. we stopped there for about 30 mins and i went to leave, and the same plug wires wer off, with the same prbolem. i just got in the house checking for water and stuff in the wells, and there is none (i took the intake off for the rear ones) its ****** me off, it happened a week ago and thought nothing of it. anyone know whats goin on???? i need new plug wires and plugs dont i?
havent spent any $ on fixin it in the last 6 months so its prob time for it to ahppen.....

Well when you push em back down do they feel like they seal right? But what it seems is you need new plugs and/or wire's is there anything inside the plug wire?

i didnt think ti check inside the wire, the wires are motorcraft. yes i feel them seat when i push them back on, its just an annoyance to have to do it every time i shut off and restart my car.....ill look inside the plug wires and get back to ya..

That doesn't sound quite right that you need to reseat the wires everytime you turn the car off. Check to make sure that the wire didn't seperate from the boot. I had a problem with some cheapy wires that this happened to.

Did this happen after you pulled out the spark plug wires, where they might have been damaged?

they arent loose, and fully seated when i drive the car off, but when i turn it off and then on i gotta reseat them.....maybe 1/2 the time. theres nothing in the wires, what would damage be like??? i havent changed the plugs or wires on the car since ive had it, and it did this one time last week, and didnt happen again till today. they are motorcraft wires. i couldnt have damaged them cuz i havent touched them until after they did this, and the plugs are in tight, so its kinda ****** me off. ill take the intake off tomorrow(i was going to anyways) and then ill check all the wires for damage, and the plugs, and if theyre bad ill just order some ac delco wires (im not paying more than 40 bux for wires, i might go up to taylors, but thats it)and the motorcraft plugs. and change em out and see if that works, but until i get those these are really ****** me off......

My car use to do that some time.One or two of the wires would pop off sometimes and car would run like a$$!I put new wires on and never had another problem.

ditto....except mine would fall off while driving around....running good on 6 cylinders, and then I would go to hit the gas, and BAM , only 5 cylinders....stop, plug my wire back on, and away we go with 6 again.

Could a plug be loose, letting the engine force push the wire off?

I know what you mean no power without a wire- when I bought mine it had a plug wire (#2) disconnected and ran like ke-rap. Pushed it in and HELLO AUTOBAHNN!!

Gentlemen of SHOly nature.....I recall once that Huntervf had this problem with his SHO that had new wires. He posted this exact problem. I was there when it happened and found the cause to be most disturbing: The plug was not seated well...actually it kept coming loose and blowing the plug wire off. This might not be the exact problem with your ride as your plug wires sound pretty old and this problem will probably go away if you replace them with new OEM wires.

Now this is just preference, but for 99.00 you can get the Motorcraft wires. Now this may not be everyones point of view, but if I were ford and could have saved 10.00 per car by installing cheaper plug wires that work, then I would have done it. They didnt, so I wont either.

I recommend the Taylor wires from Summit Racing. They fit just as well as the factory wires and seal better against both the plug and valve cover. They're cheaper than the motorcrap stuff too.

can anyone give me the summit part # for the taylor wires, and how much are they???? and what are the part numbers for the motorcraft plugs(might as well do those too)?? are the ac delco(soooo cheap, and black) wires good, or are they taylor wires better(fitment, ingition, etc)? im not too into the colored plug wires, but it might go with my car.

i ordered the taylor plug wires in red from summit for like 76 bux, i used summit part #TAY-74268, which im pretty sure is right. now i decided to get plugs, but did the part # change to AGSP32FM? my friends dad is parts manager at our local ford dealership and can get me these for cheap, like 1/2 what everyone else pays, so are these the right plugs or is there a different part #?

Yes the AGSP32FM are the replacements for the original stock plugs. They changed the design of the plugs and I haven't heard anything negative from anyone who is currently running them.

Edit: If I was running a platinum plug, I wouldn't think twice about putting them in my car. If you really don't want to try them and want the original double platinum plugs then try getting them from www.fordpartsnetwork.com
