Today, I was taking off the cam gears to get the chain tensioner out, and I dropped one of the two bolts down an oil drain. I don't know what to do. I don't really feel like getting the bolt, unless it will cause harm. If I have to, I don't know how to go about it. -Thanks

The only way to ensure no damage will be done is to drop the oil pan to make sure the bolt fell all the way through, and then recover it.

taking the oil pan off is easy:

remove bolts

clean mating surfaces and apply new gasket

rebolt to specified torque

the end thumbs_u dont worry, its that easy.

ps - oh yeah, you may want to drain it first. if the bolt is small enough maybe it will drain out. who knows.

OH you didn't know
Run a magnet along the oil pan and try to drag the bolt along the oil pan and bring it toward the drain plug, then put the magnet on the drain plug and hopefully the bolt will have attached to the plug as you remove it to drain the oil! Good Luck! thumbs_u

Removing the oil pan is not as easy as described above. You must first remove the Y-pipe portion of the exhaust system which can be tough in the rust belt. You then must remove the starter before getting to the oi pan bolts and nuts. There are a couple of hard-to-see bolts/nuts at the transaxle end of the pan. Use a flat head screwdriver or small pry tool at the corners where there are overlapping flanges to pry the pan off. Do not scratch the sealing area of the pan ******. You will probably want to get the Fel-Pro OS30636R gasket set from AutoZone for $16.99. This set comes with the two end seals and two tubes of silicone for the long side flanges.

Always plug the four oil return holes when the valve covers are removed. Then remember to remove the plugs (paper towels) when complete.
