im contemplating about rehabilitating my ground effects but need some more education on painting plastic.

my ground effects have flaws (chips, scratches, knicks). should i remove all of the factory paint, fill in the deep spots, resand, then paint ? or just fill in the spots, rough sand, fine sand, then paint ?

if i need to remove all of the factory paint, what could i use to do this safely without affecting the integrity/rigidity/smoothness of the plastic ?

and lastly, i think....what kind of paint should i use ? since the plastic can flex, would i need acryllic paint ?

teach me, and i will learn.

TIA

It's urethane plastic. You'll need a flex-additive, I'd shoot urethane paint over it. I etched the urethane with 220 grit sandpaper, then paint with urethane primer with the additive in it. Sand and paint from there.

I believe you can purchase some thick black film that you can stick too the ground effects something like the newer Volvo wagons use, i like the look ive taught about doing it to my SHO, it would protect the effects and not hide them altogether as it would be like 5 inches from the bottom of the ground effects.
