Hey all!

Obviously new to the forum and am looking for some advice. Should a complete car noob own this vehicle? I mean complete, aside from the ability to change a tire.

I have always had an eye for the SHO, so when I spotted one at my local dealer I took it for a spin and loved it. I paid a $200 deposit to have one that I felt fit me best put on a trailer and shipped to me. I am under no obligation but I am also under no delusions, I'm gonna want to take it home.

I have spent quite a bit of time on this forum the last few days and my head is spinning. I've read posts from guys with garages nicer than any room in my house talk about gas, oil, filters, spark plugs, brake pads, intake valves, sludge, tires etc. in great depth and I feel WAY out of my league.

I would love to own this car, have it last me 15 years and look and drive like someone in the know took care of it. Only problem is, I'm not in the know and my mechanical aptitude is laughable at best.

Once the warranty expires I am at the mercy of the mechanic which I have a solid distrust in. I have been taken advantage of in the past so it's not blind hate. So, from now till then can a guy like me spending a few hours a week on this forum and getting my hands dirty enough not to feel so puzzled/helpless?

You can buy this car with limited mechanically knowledge, heck, you might even develop a good relastionship with your dealer, during normal maintenance trips during warranty. this car is a lot of fun to own and drive.
And I'll bet you find that you will gain a ton of knowledge if you hang around here. You can get most of your questions answered and the guys (and girls) will be very helpful. Good luck. You have to let us know what color and options of the car you are looking at has on it.

Alot of good info in these forums. Like Bob said, you dont need to modify it you don't want. The car is actually quite good from the factory. Should last you just fine and if you want to get dirty yourself...that's always possible too.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here. The guys are always willing to give you answers.

welcome to the forum. if you like the car and enjoy driving it, just do it! thier are more than enough people on here that are more than willing to hepl out with anything you are concerned about or have questions about. and the best thing you can do is ask questions even if its a dumb one. you will be surprised at how much you will learn about your car just by spending some time reading through the different threads. ive learned a lot about the new shos just by going through the pages of info.

Thank you for the advice everyone.

This will be (if I make it) my first new car purchase. My car will be at the dealer in the morning so I plan on spending a good portion of the day at the lot checking everything twice and trying to get the deal in place that I need to purchase it.

It's White Platinum Metallic Tri-coat and It's loaded except for the performance package which I thought I could do without.

I'll keep this updated as I make my decision.

Once you purchase the car, if you want to learn to do work on it, feel free to look me up and make the 2 hour drive over to Cedar Rapids and we'll have a garage night. I've got a scan tool for the car, plenty of tools, and plenty of space in the heated and air conditioned garage.

Its all up to you... the car is really reliable i'm hoping 10 out of it

you don't need any major mechanical knowledge, just keep up with regular maintenance and you should be fine... (if the dealer is telling you to refill halogen fluid, its time to go somewhere else)

btw on a side note if you buy a new jaguar you get complimentary 5 years maintenance and service plus they cover the parts that wear out!

Welcome to the club.

While I don't generally recommend extnd warranties. If you plan on keeping this vehicle for 15 years and your mechanical knowledge is limited. Based on how hi tech this car is, invest in the extra 1500 and buy a FORD extd warranty for as far out as you can take it. Which I think is 7/100K. Everything on this car is expensive and unfortunately you will find in year 11-15 that if anything big goes wrong, it would cost more to fix than the car is worth.

OK let's get to it here. I know JACK about cars. I can get in one and drive it, add gas and wash/wax. That's it. If someone offered me $1,000 to change my own oil I doubt I could collect. I did not mod my SHO and don't plan to. I did get the extended warranty as others suggested because I want to keep it a while and it is a somewhat unknown commodity.

That said it is fun to drive and while I can't fix or work on a car for squat I sure know how to use google and/or this forum to look up issues, TSBs, or anything else for a starting point for discussion with the dealer when something does come up.

I mean it is surely going to cost you north of 30k for the car so what's another grand to not have to deal with mechanical crap that you know nothing about to begin with? Get the car, get a warranty, check the TSBs if you ever have an issue, and you will be just fine.

X2.

I'm in Omaha and there's more than a handful of sho guys here that would not mind getting together for a garage night... or a beer night for that matter.
