well idk what happen i drove the car to work sat at work in the cold, cold weather it was like 5degs all day and when i was out messing with it a little while ago it said -2 on the outside temp in the car.

i did have coolant in the car but idk if it really was enough to handle these temps (i was a real nice green tint)pulled up to my mom and dads to pick my bro up and i came out to a hot temp gauge and gargling coolant tank!

got it home 4 miles up the street and when i pulled the cap the thing was empty.. so i put water in it. ran it to find no leaks and to do the same as above.... car gets very hot on temp gauge and gargles loud and alot

ran to the parts store to get coolent didnt want any of what i had water to freeze.....

ran it again to get the coolan mixed in. till the gauge started to climb again and the bottle started to gargle????

what gives could my coolent started to freeze? since it wasnt strong enough with antifreeze????

any input.. didnt seem to find a leak but it got dark and very, very cold i gave up..
thanks in advanced

Check your water pump belt, I'm pretty sure it could have snapped or broke. If that is good, may be your thermostat but I doubt it, I'll go with my first guess.

When you are low on coolant, the first symptom is no heat. Sounds like you've got a pretty big coolant leak somwhere.

i know i lost coolant since the system had like none in it?????

now after the car ran for about 50mins the heat started to kick..

and i cant find a leak anywhere.. i know every few months in the summer i was having to top the system off.. and i been slacking at that since it got cold.. maybe i let it get to far?

ether way so far i have heat and damn good heat!!!

Possibly. The gurgling noise sounds like it was air escaping the lines when you added coolant.

The side tanks on the radiator have been known to leak only when cold, as does the coolant recovery tank. Pull the air dam out from underneath the bumper and look for signs of coolant on top of the dam and soaked into the foam pad. Also look on the side tanks on the radiator itself.

the air damn hasnt been on since the motor has been installed.. lol never bother with it the car didnt seem like it really needed it temps ways stayed good.....

anyways i can see the tanks and i seen that they had coolant on them but i didnt just top the recovery tank off so i can have made it spill down there. so i rised it clean when some warm water... and i didnt notice any green coolant showing again. so i figured i was good? maybe still worried

i pretty much put in 1 1/2 gal coolant and 3/4 gal of water and what was left of the mix in the system.. im letting it cool down right now to see where my level stands.... i do know that when it was boiling or w/e the coolen was rushing out the cap of the recovery tank.... so i know i lost some there... but im looking for what caused this to start... i have left my car sit in my parents drive for longer running with no issue, but this 5 min run in run out and it was all hot!!! and sounded like it was boiling now that i think of it....

also when i ran it to move it to take the gf's car sounded like ice was hitting my fire wall like a hammer!! i thought it was bout to blow up!!!!!

thanks for any input guys!(gals)

Is the tank completely full?

there is a chance it could have got low since i did notice it was going low. but i also noticed the radiator drain was having a very slow slow leak didn't bother with it yet....

im gonna check that once it cools down since i pretty much filled the system last night since i didn't know if it could have been freezing and i got it before it froze or what?'

last night when the rad fans came on they were ice freezing cold, today when they came on it was warm. just took a 30-35min to get the heat to blow hot..

i felt the heater hose's and they seemed warm but that was pretty much right b4 the heat started to work

idk what its deal was but if its fixed from putting coolant in it idk what happen.. i do know it was like -3 that day and maybe colder...

You should always keep the degasser tank as full as possible. Do not go by the marks for hot or cold fill on the tank. Any excess will just be pushed out.

You also should get a cheap antifreeze checker and see what the strength of the solution is.

Less than 2 gallons, 10.8 quarts officially. So the tank was low, why?

i found that the radiator drain was having a few drips here there didnt think anything of it every 2weeks it would be like down a 1/4 tank on the reservoir.

other then that i don't know yet its been very cold.. it also did look as if the pass side tank on the radiator could have been leaking, i did spill some do i didn't know if it was that.. i poured water down there and the whole 30 min the car ran i didn't see coolant leak.. just water from all the ice on the sub frame that was melting from the snow storms here in Michigan..
