Well, this weekend I am going to buy the paint and repaint the car. Putting a nice fresh coat of Emerald Green on, gonna pick up some nice sliver and shoot the lettering while I'm at it...also want to shoot a couple of stripes up the car (silver of course)...but how wide do you think I should go? I have been thinking about two stripes about 8 or 9 inches each. Starting from the bottom of the front dam up the bumper cover down the hood, over the roof and along the trunk...ending just before the rear bumper (S-H-O on the bumper will be Silver) So how wide do you all think? Thanks! And no Jay, I am not wet sanding your car too! wink

If you are dead-set on doing stripes, I would think twice of going over the roof...That is a big ass roof to cover... I don't think the Taurus looks right with stripes, but that's IMO.

I would think about ending the stripes at the back of the hood, and starting them back up on the trunk... I did this to a Cavalier I had... only did the front though. You really don't want too much silver, as it will detract from the nice new green paint.

*EDIT* Also, about the size... try and match up the width of the stripes to the front of the car, and don't use the same width all the way down.. Start somewhat narrow(leave maybe 2" in between stripes?) and get progressively wider. By the time you reach the back of the hood, maybe 10-12" max...
Try drawing it out first, or use Photoshop... You don't want to go screwing up your paintjob. Materials cost too much to have to re-do shoot

If you have any questions, feel free to IM me , or email me.

Persoanlly I would not add the stripes but if your set for a ride on the pain train then go for it.

1st thing to do is the get 2000 grit wet/dry sand paper and wet sand my entire car....... wink

Actually, I remember SHOTIME, I think it was, had a frost SHO with black stripes. I thought it looked pretty, not sure on the size though.

I think the stripes on say a 69' Z28 would be what you are looking for. Large stripes, pretty close together, with a small pinstripe around the boarder, starting off at the 1st inch of the hood and ending at the rear spoiler, again an inch up from the end.

I think stripes would look stupid. Dont do it you will wreck the car. It is a waste of time and money.

If you are just going for opinioms........
It will **** the sleeper look. I know its not the same class, but the probes always look bad with stripes.

If I were to do stripes I would go black on emerald green.

The same guy that painted my car wanted to shoot black stripes on my car(green). I thought it would look better if you did a dark/gunmetal gray rather than silver. I think the silver will take away from the fresh kick ass green paint.

If all goes well, a fresh coat of paint and some very cool idea for racing stripes may be utilized on my SHO. I wouldn't post pictures, but have it ready for next years convention.

The '69 Z28 look is exactly what I had been trying to explain... I think when I did the stripes on the Cavalier( 4door with Z24 nose) I used a 1/4" border around the stripes. About 1" from the front lip of the hood, and all the way to the back of the hood. Then, on the trunk, I would start at the very edge(near the window) and go back towards the rear bumper. Does your car have a spoiler, Randy? If it does, maybe go over the edge of the spoiler and stop the stripes there...

get the stripe decals and keep those on for a couple days. See how you like them, then decide if you actually want to paint them on.

Very good idea, Erik. I would keep this idea in mind, Randy. Of course, do it BEFORE you paint the car. If you want to put the stripes on the car after, clear-coat over the painted stripes... They won't flake or peel off.

:D ok...I'm laughing while I type this...but
just a thought....since your going with some shade of gray, how about before you do your paint prep work you break out the tried and true roll of gray duct tape and see what you come up with.
All hail duct tape!

I think if you were going to go with stripes I would do the offset style with the wide and skinny stripe. Something like a 3" wide stripe and then a 1" wide one next to it. And put them on the drivers side. Whatever kind you do, go all the way down the bumper. If you don't want them to stand out completely then get them to mix up some paint a couple shades darker or lighter than the car color.

I kinda like the finish line flag graphics in the pic below. I don't think it would look right on a green car though.

exactly what I have. Mine is a chamelion (spelled wrong) color paint, maroon to blue. I outlined the lines w/ thin white pin stripes.

word of advice. take your time, and remember, the roof curves twords the doors. (when I was taping everything off it honestly took me 3 hours to figure out why my tape looked crooked on the roof) thumbs_u

I would go with the vinyl stripes, like the newer TA's and SS's. Theyr'e not that much money, easy to take off if you don't like them, and if done neatly look like they are painted on.

I thought Shorsepowers white w/blue stripes looked awesome. Too bad he was a complete ****. shoot
