I just recently removed the rod bearings and one of them seem to have a lot of wear. Have not seen pictures with this type of wear on that one bearing. I was wondering if the engine could still be good? The crank does not look to be grooved and will try to take some pictures of it. I am going to use plastigage to check the clearance. If the clearance is still within the proper specs, should it be ok? Thanks for any input. The photos are on the link http://www.flickr.com/photos/51073730@N08/

I changed my SHO at 280k and mine showed less wear than that. Those look bad. I am assuming you had some lower end engin noise. As long as the crank looks good you should be all set. Mine was knocking a little but my crank looked fine.

I've seen that kind of wear on lots of bearings except the one. That looks bad. You need to check the crank where that one was.

run your fingernail across the crank, from front to back of the bearing land. you should not feel ANY roughness or ridges at all. do this all the way around the bearing journal. if you can feel anything, the crank needs to be addressed. if it all feels smooth, then your plan to plastigage and reassemble will be fine.

those bearings look like the previous owners didn't remember to change oil very often at all, and that is not a good sign. I'm guessing the top of it has a ton of varnish too, and the valve stem seals are probably as hard as rocks.

The car is a mtx and has about 138K. The previous owner did not drive it much so not sure on how often the oil was changed. While I have had it, the oil was change ever 2500 miles or sooner. The fact that it is also supercharged probably did not help it. I will have to check the crank throughly again to see if it is ok. There was not any unusual noise with the engine before I took it apart. Thanks for the replys.

Those look pretty bad, but as long as the crank has no scratches, your good to go.

FWIW, I have seen worse.
