in my experience, the only cause for that symptom is a bad tps or wiring to the tps.

Oil in the plug wells would cause this also. It would limit your spark if the plugs are covered in oil.

in my experience, the only cause for that symptom is a bad tps or wiring to the tps.

Plug wells filled with water will also cause this. I had a ton of water get in to my rear plug wells after sitting in a VERY heavy rain (The car has a cowl hood). I tried everything only to feel like a total ******** when I found out the plug wells were full of water. I got a turkey baster, Got the water out, Test drove the car and had all my power and driveability back...then 5 minutes later the clutch went out.

I replaced the plugs and clutch not long after.

the tps is the throttle position sensor, so as you might expect, it is on the throttle plate shaft, on the throttle body.

On the throttle body. Little black sensor. Right across from where the big spring is that the accelerator cable connects to.

[sigh] only if i could think sometimes.

has any one encountered a problem with these cars, where it will run really rich. i dont have a tach, [currently not working]. is there anyone who fixed this by replacing things or just cleaning parts and checking grounds.

new plugs, wires and fuel filter
clean or swap the maf
make sure coilpack/wires are plugged in completly
check fuel pressure at the valve with a fuel injection tester

-what sam said I had the exact same thing happen, but should prob do plugs and wires anyways if you dont know when they are been replaced last.

I did work on one car that had no power and didn't want to run right, and it turned out that the timing belt had jumped and the cam timing was off a few teeth. at this point, I would pull off the top timing cover and verify cam timing.
