I would say remove the LPM, 80 MAF, and reset the computer. Run a couple tanks through it and if you milage jumps you know where the problem is. If not, at least you know your mods aren't the problem.

O2s usually run $35-55... FYI I haven't run premium in the SHO for a long time. No pings or anything and MUCH cheaper.

I get consitantly 210-220 miles with 14 gallons of Premium. BUT, I do have snow tires, original O2s, and do tend to cruise at no less than 3000 RPM. Still, my gas mileage has always sucked in this car. It's friggen expensive too!

I get better mileage using premium on the highway, but not much difference using it in town. I save about 12 bucks using premium instead of regular over a 2200 mile trip. Around town though, I use 89.

Does the tq converter lock up like it's supposed to? Does it take a long time to lock up from the time the car is first driven?

Octane will not affect gas mileage, provided the engine is not knocking. It makes more sense to use a higher octane in town for performance reasons... more acceleration and decceleration, as opposed to cruising at a constant speed...

If 89 works for your car, it will work in town and on the highway with no effect on gas mileage. If you are mixing then that's a different story.

I get real ****** milage in the winter because my touque converter doen't lock out for a really long time because of the extra tranny cooler on the beast, + I let it idle 3-4 minutes before I goto work and about 10minutes before I leave work, mikey ever think about selling tranny thermostats? it would make a HUGE difference in milage, I turn about 2,800-3,100 traveling 70mph to work every day, when the TC locks it drops to about 2,500~

in the summer with me driving it moderately hard I get around 20mpg city/highway and on long leasurly highway trips I get 28.6~ @70-75mph

I have a '95 ATX w/the 16 gallon tank. I get around 250 on the with street driving (I drive 6 miles to work stop and go), and around ~320 if I do all highway.

I would have to disagree with you. I consistently got better mileage with my 89pgt on 89 octane than 87. Now I am not sure if it was because of the Ethanol in the 89 or what the deal was. I tested this out over a year and I consistently got 2-3mpg better with the 89 with ethanol. Over this year period I also filled at different stations to test this, and I always got better with the ethanol.

Now I have not noticed a difference with the SHO. I have never run 87, but I have run both prem and 89 with ethanol.

Now I have talked to a number of people with mid 90's to 2002 chevy pickups that say they get better mileage with 87 than 89. You tend to get alot of opinions when you pump gas part time at a full service station. :corn:

You will get better gas mileage with 89 than 87 because these cars come with a knock sensor. It yanks timing, thus causing worse gas mileage. The worse mileage is caused by the timing, not the octane rating itself.

I guess no one else's trip meter is sketchy like mine. The 100's number on mine often fails to roll over to 100 miles. Yet the next time around it does. So, driving for a full tank will show 200 and xx miles yet I know it's in the 300's. Maybe you ARE driving farther and not noticing the trip meter. Just an idea. I know it happens in mine all the time. I have a 95.

The dash says "premium recommended." I've ignored it once and got this pinging noise and horrible gas mileage (185 miles on that tank). Premium is the good stuff.

Alright oldtimer here...

First it more useful if you tell us both the number of miles and the number of gallons your car took... as others have said a 20MPG city 28MPG hwy ATX is not out of tune (probably)... i get slightly more but there is variance there if you got 250 miles and put in only 12 gallons that would be ok mileage see?

I think that someone's comment on the size of your tank is important if you have the 16 gallon tank you may only get 250 while still be getting good MPG versus those of us with 18 getting at least 60-80 more...

Also i am sure this will open up a can... but! lower octanes should have more power... and be more volatile..hence pinging... it is currently 10% more expensive for premium over regular and you prob lose about 10% of your performance on regular versus premium fuels. As for milage i highly doubt that octaine will change the MPG by more than 1mpg UNLESS.... your O2s are weak / old and unable to adjust appropriately for the different octaines. I think that picking an octaine and sticking with it is more important than anything else... i think it wears your o2s out excesively when they are seeing all sorts of ranges... but that might be just in my head.

FYI TIRE PRESSURE will **** your mpg.... going up to like 35 PSI over 25 will give you a few miles right there...and reduce your grip but the tires should wear evenly etc... never over exceed the mfr recommnedation... i think most say 32... but 35 shoul be fine.

Try the simple stuff first.

Correct because the burn is much faster. Higher octane increases the burn time, which is why when a new vehicle says 87 only, use 87, not higher.

As for the tank size, I beleive most SHOs have the long-range 16.5 gallon tank.

My car also has this annoying little habit. I've found that once the tranny temps have risen to ~150* the tq converter will lock up. Even then at cruising speeds slightly depressing the throttle will cause it to unlock. I'm looking for a way to manually override the tq converter clutch lock-up solenoid. It may be possible to wire it on a latched circuit via relays to unlock if you step on the brake. :help:

I just got my SHO back from getting her new fuel pump.

Once i get a tank or so through her i will start letting you guys know what i get.

I expct to get in the high 20s... i am a grandma driver 98% of the time only rising up into a rubber burner when some nopi'ed civic or eclipse is next to me.

Listen seriously guys check your tire pressure it can have more to do with your mpg then anything else... ALSO firmer tires spin easier... if that your thing... i mean at least it will keep the axles from breaking
