I recently saw that on my 93... i was getting crap gas mileagle... so i clocked tjhe timer and on a full tank 30$ worth of premium, i only came out with 240 miles... is that normal because i just noticed it. ive never really watched before. there is no leaks. or anything it runs great, starts great.
but also when i start the car ive noticed, sometimes ill let it idle before i start it or shut it off.. and the night before i will take out key and stuff, and start it the next morning- say i was on 3/4 tank, id be like 1 line down ..... from 3/4
and thats just from a start.

if anyone knows whats wrong or anything on it lemme know
it has a 80mm maf... d4U1, big cone filter, and lpm....

Probably running rich, no tuning and an 80mm MAF, but I doubt thats all that is making it run rich. Probably bad 02's also causing ti to run really rich.Check to see if it puffs black smoke. Check engine codes too :thumb: I regularly got 35-400 miles per tank. The SHO's I got around 350 per tank had bad 02's...

He said he had a LPM, for his 80mm MAF I would guess. I would check the o2 sensors and maybe even the cats.

What is the life expectancy of the 02 sensors?

the stock fuel gauge is NOT very acurate.

Try actually figuring out your gas mileage. As in, top off your tank, hit the trip odometer. Drive till your down to a 1/4 tank or so. Top off again. Divide the mileage on the trip odometer by the gallons used to top off the tank.

Only then will you know just how much fuel you are consuming.

I too thought I was getting really lousy gas mileage a while back. Similarly to you, only getting 240-260 miles per fill up (I fill up when it hits 1/4 tank). In actuallity, I was getting 18 mph on my worst tank. But I do like throttle ;)

Opps, only seen the D4U1  But... if he bought that LPM used and it is not tuned for his car, then that alone could be the problem. It could have been tuned for a much more modded car and timing could have been messed with.

Hmm.... Im gettin the exact same milage......240 to a full tank.....If the 02 sensors and temp. sensor were bad, wont they throw a code?
Im just curious, Or can the both wear out without sending a code? My fuel gauge doesnt work so it generally runs out of gas about 252mi.

They dont always throw a code, also there is the part where they had released some SHOs with the smaller SLO gas tank which is roughly 2-3 gallons smaller.

If you only put in $30 of Premium, you didn't put in a full tank. Which means you're probably not running the tank even close to empty. How many gallons did you get for your $30? I'm guessing 13. That's over 18mpg in an ATX - not horrible.

Also, one tank is not a good indication. Record three (or more) fillups (gallons, not $$$) and miles driven.

It all depends on how you drive the car and what conditions you drive in. Are you making a lot of stops? Do you drive on counry roads or the hiway frequently? Do you like to get the secondaries to open up for that great sound? How cold is it outside? LPM opens things up a little sooner too.

I typically get 18 in the "city" and 28 on the open road in the summer. Winter is much worse as the car runs rich until it gets up to temp.

250-300 miles on a tank is average for an ATX in my opinion.

More than likely, the st1 means that the chip is burned for a basic bolt-on mod package. The SHOshop stage one kit included (y-pipe, 80mm maf, CAI, LPM, and UDPs)

I get black smoke and crappy gas milage, and I replaced the O2s less than 10k ago. What else can cause a rich running condition??

I would suggest replacing the O2 sensor. My '93 was getting awful gas mileage until I replaced it. Now I can get about 330-350 miles out of full tank...depending of course how hard I jump on her :thumb: .

I must have missed this. This is unfortunately the reason I no longer recomend LPMs. They have an inherant tendency to either lean or richen a mixture, usually excessively.

If the LPM said "stage I" that means it's programmed for an 80mm MAF, Y pipe, and other bolt-ons or at least it was originally.

In the world of LPM, to my knowledge, only one company makes the chip and everyone else just reburns it. As such, you can get a Ted B unit, SHO Shop unit, or "Bob brand A" ( ;) ) unit and they are all the same thing. I actually remember your LPM because of that sticker and remember that it was programmed for the mods that you put in the "notes" column. So that should at least be of some help. :)

Yeah i understand now, thanks Mike. I sorta found the problem, if my car is cold and i start it, it takes more gas to start it then letting it idle for 30 minutes -_- i dont know why... but i filleed up with 31$ this time, and put on 90 miles and im already @ a little under 3/4, but when i get to half it seems to shoot down quick. **** even after it comes off full... it shoots down quick.
so i still get 230-240 miles / tank.

grrrrr
