Once again, my thoughts turn to selling the SHO...

I dunno guys,

I love may car, but like Tim Allen, I need more power....

I can modify it, but I'm impatient...There's a nice Mustang GT at my work I can pick up cheap, I know asking a bunch of SHO fanatics is going to give me a biased answer, but I just get confused....I also crave a 5 speed again, that's a hard thing to walk away from. I wish I could **** it off to the wife, but she doesn't like the SHO enough to pay for it, she wants a friggin SUV!!!

Whaddya think? Keep or sell?????

I've been back and forth on this issue for weeks now, and I just can't seem to decide either way....Maybe if I get those springs on soon I'll want to keep it longer...

What is the year and the options on this mustang GT? People tend to get bored, this is why we have more than one type of car made. If you really like it **** go for it. Can I have your 1996 SHO tho?

There are two choices....One's a '98 GT hard top with 41K miles...All options, Laser Red with an aftermarket exhaust, perfect shape...

I can buy it for close to ten.

The other is a '98 Cobra Vert that's a little rougher and has about 4k more miles.

I can buy that for close to 18.

Can you HAVE the SHO???? ummmm nope.. LOL

But I have decided that for the right price, I'll let her go.....maybe I'll wind back up in an older SHO, but most likely another 'Stang.....

It really depends a lot on what you want. I had the Scirocco out a few times over the summer, and once again this fall. The fall trip was the only one with the windows up. Though I certainly enjoyed driving a manual again, on the fall run I found the much higher noise levels annoying. I guess I have gotten used to going very fast, very quietly. And I am willing to not do the shifting to have that. I will certainly take the Scirocco out again. And probably often. But only in the summer, I think, with the windows down.

As per the Mustang, well, it is a very different car. My last one was a '79 turbo. I would not want it again. I am sure the new ones are better in many ways, but frankly, I really am not a RWD fan. AWD or FWD on a front engine design seem to me a lot smarter. RWD is fine on rear engines though, so why don't you just go all the way and get a used 911?

I think I have to say that my experience with Mustangs is what brings me back. I've owned five of them, from a '65 up to an '86.

My brother has a 99 GT that runs mid 11's with a supercharger and some other stuff, for less than 28 grand, he has a car that goes that fast?? Sounds like a winner to me, sure I could go for a cheap turbo-charged DSM or something, but to me there is nothing like the raw power of a V8. I love the way my car sounds, so much that I often leave the radio off, my last car, an '86 GT conv. had a nice set of flowmasters on it, and I tell ya, I'd never have the radio on interferring with that lovely V8 rumble.

My car gets alot of attention, which is kinda nice, alot of people are interested in it and it's cool to educate people about what our cars are and what they represent, which is to me, the domestic's best attempt at a near-luxury sports-sedan.

It's a unique car, and a Mustang is as common as Santas at Christmas.

BUt it's hard to ignore the repair and maintainance of this SHO, which is only going to get worse the more I drive it.

Why not the best of both? Can you afford to keep the SHO as a weekend driver? Lots of 89-93 GT and 5.0 LX's around for 2500-6000$. I made the mistake of selling my 88GT last year. I had that car for almost 7 years. As things needed replacing I put the best of everything in it. I convincied myself that it was turning into a moneypit and that I was tired of it so I sold it to a kid that worked for me for 4k. Now that I look back I see a car that was in perfect condition and ran mid-high 13's. The last 2 years that I had it I put in a new T-5, 3.55's, 16" wheels, changed to MAF, and new paint. It already had a H-pipe and flowmasters. The 4k didn't nearly compensate me for the fun I had with it. To bad I didn't keep it, could have parked it until the bug bit me again.

Selling the SHO is a tough thing. I bought my first 2 years ago (GEN 1) and sold it after six months. I was nuts, and had to have another. I bought a 96 and then my current 97 which I have had too many problems with that started at about 45k. All new coils, 2 bearings and an idle problem that changes weekly (that's a whole nother story).
I have thought about selling my SHO everyday and then I get in it and drive it and don't want to. I think I will probably sell it in the spring when the market is better for sporty cars and by a GEN II which I have never owned.
OKAY, My point?!?

Get yourself a stang, and get a cheap SHO that you can have as well. If you can afford 18k, by the stang GT, and an older Gen II and have $ to spare to do some mods!?!?. That is my opinion. I have never had a stang, but they are nice, and so are SHO's. That is why you are in this tough situation. Sorry so long, but I feel your pain.
PS, how much for your SHO???

That's the problem....The last SHO I had I missed within weeks of selling it. I really love my car, but I just GET like this sometimes.

I wouldn't sell my car unless I felt I both got a great price for it and the car went to someone who would really appreciate and take care of it as I have.

As far as price, somewhere around retail book, which I haven't looked up in about three weeks. I just feel that the low miles, condition and care I've put into the car warrant that, you know?

I've decided to hang on to it until I find a nice 99 or newer...I think those are better Mustangs..

I'd rather keep the thing, but the wife don't want it.
