Hey guys, a month or 2 ago i blew my trans, or so I thought, (still think its blown because the car jerks around). On my way home tonight limping the car from where it was to get my tranny changed at my house, i pushed the clutch in and gave it a rev (i missed my car) well it idols down a my low oil pressure light flickers. yeah the red one on the left side the evil bad one, its never happened before so i tried again nothing, hmm fluke? again nothing again, flicker. Ok so its doing it sometimes, long story short i get it home and its flickering all the time at idol. So i parked the car and i think its getting a its new tranny and rod bearings im liek 99% sure that my problem now. So my question is is do I have to regrind my crank or anything, id hate to change them and have the same problem. Frigging things have less then 100k on them, but my sho was beat on throughout its life. Sorry for the long post but what do you guys think new crank , regrind, or is it ok? The wierd thing, with my trans or i think at least is when i get on the throttle the tapping goes away but when i let off it gets louder dunno if that helps or not.:oogle:

sounds like you've got a lot of work on your hands. I'd definitely change your bearings if you've got an oil light flicker. That's no good.

If there is no real damage to the crank just swap some new bearings in there. If there is just light scratching you may be able to clean it up with crokus (sp?) cloth or something. For real wear damage just get the crank turned and get the appropriate bearing size. Once you get to drop the oil pan the job ain't bad. Just let the oil drip off the rotating assembly to keep oil out of your eyes.

my light just started to flicker and it hasent been driven since i saw that scary little light. However id herd that tapping sound for a while and it does is loud on cold starts. How do I know if the crank needs to be turned or replaced? Will I see big gashes in it?

Okay, there is like 5 members just today who've mentioned this new mysterious red light at idle(including me). Its becoming an epidemic! A sign of the end of the world? I think the first thing God would do is punish the SHO owners, cause he knows how much we love our cars...

The thing is, my lights on, but the car runs just fine! Its a test of faith...I hope.

None can tell until you look at the bearings and check clearances with plasticgauge.

not many people will do the RB's. Its really very sad, as it only takes a few hours, but the return is so much greater.

If your SHO has 100k or more on it... CHANGE THE ROD BEARINGS! (****, i'd do it if i had 80k)

funny part is is mine has 99k on it and it was already planned for me to do it in the spring, I guess it wants it earlier:rofl:

For some reason, rod bearing swaps seem to make people squeemish. As stated above, it's quite easy to do - especially if you have the y-pipe off for another reason(tranny swap).

Just follow the directions on shophoenix and plastigauge a couple of new bearings to make sure that they are going on an uncut crank.

The SHO crank is forged so grinding the crank is usually not needed.

My bearings looked like this and my oil light flickered at hot idle constantly. Now, my oil light stays off unless I lug the motor below 500RPM.
I measured the old bearings with plastigauge and they were right around .03 clearance.
With the new bearings, the measurement was right around .02 and no more oil light.
Notice that the wear is fairly even. If you see a very uneven wear pattern, you might consider grinding the crank.

blahhhh i need a garage and a lift, my cars battery dies over night and I don't know why, it needs a trans, it needs rod bearings, it needs an alignment, and tires balanced. This kinda sucks, I have a feeling im going to have no car until spring:frown:

Edit: o yeah and not to mention both of my main seals leak, pully and trans side...
