I just rebuilt my engine and it has been burning oil like mad. I did everything. New guides, new seals, reseated the valves, re-machined the crank, new bearings, reconditioned rods, everything........so i am not thinking that it's an internal problem. I really think it's the pcv system. any comments? shrug '92 3.0 mtx

nope replaced all of the seals and the guides the heads are mint. beside that wouldn't be enough to burn that much oil.

Disconnect and plug the crankcase vent hose. That will tell you if it is/was the source of oil consumption.

I used the same rings, but got the block reconditioned. The rings were carefully inspected for wear. the engine had mobil 1 sythetic it's whole life too. could this be a problem????

Mobil 1? Oh no, here we go again.

My experience has shown that the SHO valvetrain does not appreciate the lubrication qualities of Mobil 1 synthetic. I have no data regarding the piston ring sealing and cylinder wall wear from this petrolium substitute in our powerplant.

Run a compression test on the motor. I'm almost certain you're losing it through the rings.

When you machined the block, did you hone the cylinder walls? An hour late and a buck short ( :) ) but I wouldn't hone a V6 SHO motor when rebuilding it. I've never seen one without hone marks and I've never seen one with a ridge at the top of the cylinder wall and the last motor I scrapped had 130,000K on it.

Sorry I got really of topic there. :)

You stated that you used the same rings. As in, you used the original rings over again, or you used the std. size replacement rings? If you used the original ones over again, that is a plain "no no".
