ok i just got some new oil for when i do the rod bearings which will be soon.
i got castrol anti sludge forumula (sorry i cant spell right now little high on gas fumes, fixing someones fuel pump)
i was wondering if anyone used this stuff yet and if its good?
also what is the best filter i should get?
i was gonna get the K&N but i didnt see no big difference.

As far as the filter goes, I have always used the NAPA gold filters. They are made by Wix and have the highest filtration avaliable. However, they are a little expensive but you get what you pay for!

oil = castrol. best bet.
other good = valvoline - mobil

Worst = penzoil
2nd worst = quakerstate (leaves the internals very blackish , and sometimes deposits...)

Psh, wally world supertech filters work great for the money. I used Castrol or Supertech oil on my ATX and it had 147k on the original bearings and I had no knocks.

Mine has had nothing but Mobil One and Mobil One filter on it for the last 60,000+ miles. Changed every 5000 miles. Bearings still looked almost new a couple of weeks ago. 'nuff said.

For my gas rigs I run Castrol GTX with a motorcraft filter. Changed every 3k.
For my Powerstroke Diesel I run Rotella T with a Motorcraft filter. Changed ever 8k.

I use motorcraft filters, and have been putting in 5-30 Castrol syntec synthetic blend.

After I replace my oil pan gasket and the oil pressure sensor I will be switching to full syntetic 10-30 Royal purple oil. I dont want to leak too much on my old leaky gaskets, and after replacing those two things I will have all new oil gaskets.

As for Amsoil...I hear great things but the price is high even for me, I can get everything at napa, Carquest, ect at wholesale cost and Amsoil is still pricey. I prefer royal purple.

i dont worry over price honestly.. last time i changed the oils i spent like almost $70 on the best shit i could find.. i dont play when it comes to oils and such... if the car runs great and last longer then im not worried over oils and gas and such.
you go half ass you pay for it more in the long run

huh a oil filter , FILTERS , nothing more.

doesn make your car run better or anything.

Thats why a average quality filter Must be replaced at 3k . More then 3k , id go with a better quality one.

And high flow filters , well bigger flow = bigger holes in filters for crap to pass through.

Aint rocket science. Oil DOES make a diff. But the filter ....meh if you like to think that your 'safe' with a 20 bucks one , go ahead.

Actually, filters are rated in how small or microns of particles that the filter can filter out. Ha, ha. When comparing filters, you must look at the micron rating, and the flow it is capable of. Some have more pleats inside than others. Cut open a cheap fram, and then a Wix or K&N and you will see the difference. Oil and filters go hand in hand. It's all up the tohe consumer, god bless the USA!

323,900 miles on Castrol GTX and GTX High Mileage 10W-30 and Motorcraft filters. The original rod bearings were replaced at 268,000 miles before a knock was heard. I will be ready for the 108th oil change this weekend. That's a lot of Castrol GTX.

Fully agree; I am a chemist (no longer at the bench) and now sell State of the Art particle analysis sytems (www.nanosight.co.uk) to the oil companies for analyzing particlulates down to 15 nm ( 0.015 microns for those lay people); Castrol, a subsidiary of BP-Amoco, recently bought 4 of them at their UK facility alone... it is the particles that do damage to your engine, and a crappy oil filter is letting them pass right through. Master mechanic Shmecanic....
