none that I've heard of...but you would never know that it failed. If it fails, you spin a bearing...then the pump eats the bearing schrapnel and hides it's own failure.

If you spin a bearing the pump will suffer badly.

If and only if you are reving it so high that the oil filter goes into bypass. Otherwise, the filter will catch all debris. I have one brand new Ford 3.0 oil pump left if anyone needs a new one.

Wouldn't that be the likely case? And I'm also guessing that the copper becomes granular, clogs the filter and it bypasses.

I kind of doubt it. You'd have to spin 2 or 3 bearings to get enough material to clog a filter. But strange things happen. The bypass is not like a lightswitch either open or closed. It's a blow-off like valve that gradually open and closes. Probably starts to bypass some oil at 3500 rpms and is bypassing 60 % of the oil flow at 7000.

My oil pump was fine after spinning a bearing. There was some material on the gears, however, it comes off with a finger nail. Gary M. and I measured the clearances and it is still a good pump.
