Just FYI, Ford spec on BRAND NEW cars is 1 quart in 900 miles. If you can't see it, but it's losing it, it's gotta be going somewhere, and most likely out the exhaust. Luckily, mine just "stopped" using oil. It used to use a quart every 1500 miles, but now, it's still at the full mark when I change it at 2000. Kinda wierd, but who cares?

When I first purchased my SHO approx 6 months and 14k miles ago, it was using about a quart every 500 miles! The previous owners were using Penzoil :(
My first oil change was to Mobil 1, and it continued using a quart every 500-700 miles.
My second (and all after) oil change has been with Castrol GTX. Since then, my car has gone from a quart every 600 to a quart every 2000+. This is no joke! I'm at 3000 miles on my current oil change. I checked my oil yesterday - it's about a quarter of a quart below the full line. I've only added one quart since the oil change.
Awesome!
I've also noticed that I burn a half decent amount of oil upon cold startup. My valve seals must have seen better days. But I have a feeling my rings are doing better than I thought.

On older engines its typical for conventional oil to last twice as long as the synthetic stuff. Had that happen on my 92 at about 175,000 miles.

It was burnin' the penzoil just as fast as the Mobil. I may switch back to Mobil and see what happens though.

When I switched to GTX, the same thing happened! No more adding oil constantly. I'm at almost 2000 miles, and it only needs about 1/2 qt.

Man, you guys are lucky! My '89 is going through about 1 quart every 300-500 miles boink

It leaks a little out of the front main, rear main, and smokes upon start-up. :p

Oh well :D

Im sure it consumes some... EVERY car does. boink If not, there is something very wrong and your rings are not getting lubricated properly, among other things...

Try 153,000, no 60k ( :D wink ), and not changing the oil for 4 months and 6000 miles (whoops). Go to check the dipstick, half quart low

Yup I can second that. I use about a quart of redline 10W/30 every 1000 miles. $$$$ but at least I'm getting 3 extra quarts worth of additives every 3000 miles!! I recently added a quart of lucas oil stabilizer in there. It slowed oil consumption to 1 qt every 2000 miles. I think I might try the Auto-RX suggested my Paul Nimz to see if that slows down oil consumption. I don't think I'm going to use the Lucas in the SHO again.

I'm with you dude. I was using about a quart every 500 miles before I did 60k maintenance. I haven't had to put oil in my car after a change yet :)
