Just FYI. Brand new Ford OEM turbo decided to blow oil out of turbine side. I installed these turbos 5000 miles ago and I've probably done 100+ hits at the track. The turbos were from eBay (new open box but Ford OEM). The day was cold but the car had been running for 30 minutes. I did one fairly mild part-throttle hit on the street and massive smoke ensued from the Bank 2 turbo. I disassembled it expecting to find carnage but the sealing ring and race looked fine. I don't have an explanation at this point. Maybe the too-good-to-true eBay turbos are factory rejects?

Always a possibility. It's so sad too - it happens on Amazon as well. Vendors selling items and forging factory labels. I would suspect you going back to the vendor I take it to see what you might do?

Hard to tell in the photo - do they look like remanufactured - hard to tell knowing you have 5K on them.

They were 100% new and OEM for sure. I compared every marking to my originals and didn't see anything that indicated rejected or reman part (they usually mark them). They were just out-of-box. The eBay seller no longer sells new turbos for anything, just used. They sold a bunch of them for our vehicles. They got a batch from somewhere.

I had an OEM turbo, purchased and picked up at a dealer, literally come apart after about 30,000 of 'normal' driving (my normal driving probably has much more WOT than an average driver, but I've never taken it to the track). It may have been marked as a remanufactured turbo, but I can't remember for sure. I know it required a core return. It's sitting on a shelf in my garage, I'll try to remember to check what the markings on it are when I get home. I replaced it with a Dorman, it was in stock (OE were backordered at the time), half the price ($600 instead of $1200 from the dealer at the time), and has a lifetime warranty (missed the 2 year warranty on the OE bay a few months) so we'll see how that one holds up. It also came with a pair of gloves, for some reason.

EDIT: So the turbo I bought from the dealer has "HONEYWELL" Dot peened into it. So I guess Honeywell must be or must've been Ford's rebuilder for turbskis.
