Planned obsolesce or bad luck???

I have a 2014 SHO that just rolled over 120,000 miles. I have owned the car since just under 60,000 miles. Up until recently, the car has been outstanding. Recently, it seems like everything with this car is starting to fail.

Around 118,000 miles (April 2025) the car started smoking a little and the car felt down on power, no codes or anything but it sounded different - higher pitch when under boost. I checked front turbo and it was failing and starting to grind itself down. Parked car, figured it was a good time to do the timing chain and water pump and replace the turbos. I replaced the turbos with upgraded GH turbos, cleaned out GH intercooler and eco power parts pipes from oil from failed turbos, new brakes and rotors. Flushed / changed all fluids; rear diff, ptu, transmission, power steering, brakes. Took car into dealership for timing chain and water pump in mid June. Received car back from dealership on June 21.

Car was given perfect bill of health from dealership.

Everything was great for about a month after this. I have been working with Brad on dialing in the tune with the GH turbos and the car is a fantastic daily driver.

Late July, the touch sensitive hvac controls started randomly doing their own thing and not responding to my inputs. Luckily all of that is in its own menu on the infotainment screen.

Early August, backup camera develops issue where it will show me a black screen, a screen with no parking lines or it will work as it should.

Mid August, car starts smoking on cold startup (oil). I check catch can and it is full. I empty it and everything is fine for a few days and then starts smoking again. Check catch can again, its full. I realize that I never installed my UPR catch can. I did that last weekend. Now, anytime the car comes under load, it will shoot the CSS (what replaced the oil cap) clean off and oil gets sprayed everywhere (replacing the oil cap with something that has no way of securely locking down is just a stupid design). In the last two weeks, I have probably dumped 8 - 10 ounces of oil stuffs from the catch cans - not including whatever sprayed out when the stupid CSS comes off.

So now, I am trying to figure out if I have some type of crankcase ventilation issue or some other oil issue, hopefully not related to the turbos. Any suggestions on where to start? All of these issues are starting to wear on me.

Edit *** Forgot to add mods: gapped plugs, 3 bar map, 170 thermostat, GH IC, GH Turbos, PPE Downpipes, XDI Evo HPFP, Eco Power Parts Dual intake and hot pipes, ssm mounts, tuned by Brad - AJPTurbo.

As for the planned obsolescence, my coworker has a 2014 or 2015 (she isn't sure) Ford Flex with the 3.5 ecoboost with 125,000 miles and it also started smoking (oil) the same week mine did. Her backup camera also just started having the same issues and her hvac controls haven't worked in over year. So, it seems like around 120,000 miles is when this platform just gives up.

may be as simple as this, or may not.

does your MY have a crankcase pressure sensor on the clean side? i dont recall when they started using them.

This post is not to assist but let's face it all cars are engineered for 100k, as they say mileage will vary. We can prolong it with polite driving and exceptional detail to maintenance but adding anything that stresses the original engineering will shorten the life the engineer team at Ford planned for. Its a business model for sure.

The oil lines on the 14 have been known to leak. The 15 is a redesign year. Not major but definite changes.

The HVAC panel is a well know problem. The issue is that the panel is a "touch" sensitive panel NOT a push button panel! Over time as more and more people PUSH on the panel it starts cracking internally. Ours got the drivers side temperature control broken and when starting the car it went to max heat no matter what.

But thanks to this great forum I did some searches and found a repair place as Ford no longer offers this part. Around $300 and it's been perfect since.

You nailed it, 100% planned obsolescence. Cars are meant to survive their factory warrantee period, case in point, “lifetime” PTU fluid. We’re all supposed to buy brand new, dump them after 60 months and move on to the next one. It’s disgusting actually. Everything is now disposable.

You got it brother, and no politics just facts, more people can't afford new cars let alone used. The user market is planned to make you retire the car. After someone puts all the miles on it and does regualt 7000 mile oil changes and it's now 48-60k... The engineers make sure you are back for a new one.

That's why taking this forums yet seems aggressive maintenance schedule and just replacing the parts before failure you can extend the ownership.

I always say do the maintenance repairs like water pump factored in, do everything while ope good or bad.

Sorry to hear about your current struggles, definitely going through it myself with the radio display last summer, a rear turbo last month and going in tomorrow morning for a water pump and timing chain when I noticed the puke bucket was running a little low! Here is a question for everyone. If the body is still in good shape, why not just keep these cars forever and fix what needs to be fixed regardless? I have been pricing out "similar" new vehicles i.e. sedans that are fun to drive and all the stuff I really like starts at 50K. I plan on doing a cost of ownership deep dive with Grok/AI because part of me is like ok, though I am going to have spent 8K this month on repairs (definitely can't do this myself) at least I am driving a car that I love. Plus, I haven't had a car payment in almost 3 years and have a winter car. Have been tempted to take the easy route and just get a Honda Civic Sport (not a bad car for the price) but it's not the same. Even a new 5.0 Mustang. Cool, but not the same. I want this car and wish Ford would bring it back.
