After a fresh rebuild and swap (no addons or fancy trickery, motor in, motor out) we are finding ourselves in a bit of a pickle. The patient was a 91 MTX. Motor came from an 89 MTX. Full rebuild on the motor, again nothing special, all stock. After wiring everything up, we found one plug that does not have a home. See figure A. Also, it is turning over, with fuel and spark, but no firing. Not even a sputter. We have my 94 MTX here to swap parts to test so any suggestion would be great. Thanks guys!

That gray connector is for daytime running lights I believe, I remember It didn't go anywhere when I swapped engines, it shouldn't be the issue.

No fire at all is probably something stupid simple, check all the connections again, namely the CPS,and CamPS. Disconnections, the DIS ground, be sure the ground (ribbon) from the back of the intake to the chassis of the car is secure and not corroded. If you have a coil pack you couls switch it out real quick to be sure of that. Ummm, Check the ECU ground on the back of the firewall, mine worked it's way loose one time.

good luck,

Josh

EDIT:I was giving it some thought, if you are positive your have fuel and spark have you checked A) compression and B) timing??

It's reasons like this that I bought a compression tester, if you don't have one you should definitely invest, anyways, you can check timing be removing all spark plugs, pulling off the cross over tube, loosening the acc belt and pulling off the top timing cover. At this point you use a 1/2" ratchet with a 19mm socket to rotate the crank until the timing marks on the camshaft gears are TDC. If your timing is right cyl #1 will be @ TDC, and the mark on the crank pulley will be at the "0" mark on the plastic lip that is park of the lower timing belt cover...

Sorry if I ramble, I'm just pouring out what's in my head. XD

Get back to us

That connector is for the TPS, and while it needs to be connected, shouldn't affect the car starting.

Have you verified that the plugs are wet, indicating the injectors are firing?

It is the same connector as the TPS, but that wire itself is not the TPS. That is already plugged in.

Found that ground strap, that was the issue. Thanks vortex! I always forget about that damn thing. :woo-hoo:

I believe that is the EGR connector for California cars. The TPS and and EGR Pressure Sensor share the same style connector. Mine is not connected either.
