Thanks SHOdded, I been looking over that one. There's a pretty good comparison (little easier to see differences) on lombards site :)

The list of covered things changes so drastically from the premium plan to the next one down. Lots of pondering to do before I pull the trigger.

So I think the way to go is 36 month/36k miles premium plan. everywhere I look people say go premium or don't bother. and honestly that's what I did on my escape. 36k miles would get my covered until 105k miles.

Tomorrow is deal day so last question before I gotta decide. it's costing me about 3k to upgrade and then 2k on the warranty. so 5k to get into the sho. for the price of admission I'm driving that sucker till death do us part. daily driver. no real mods planned, and like to have fun but I won't be racing this thing. think she will give me a good 200k miles/another 6-10 years?

That's a good question, with the DI and carbon build up... Anyone on the forums hit 200k on the SHO 3.5?

I know the F150 3.5 has had quite a few go over 200K..

Update:
Test drove the taurus this morning and absolutely loved it. discovered some small issues on my own, sunroof not closing fully, rear sunshade not functioning, loss shift ****. but then I took it to the ford dealer for an inspection....failed about half the categories, as is, a new extended warranty wouldn't cover half the car. engine oil leaks, transmission and gear box leaks, shocks need replacing, and on and on. glad I found out in advance but pretty discouraged. couldn't make the deal and the ford tech told me that when they do the inspections, if they see even tiny leaks they have to fail it on the checklist. so it seems that no car would ever pass for a full warranty. leaving you just the option of buying something in factory warranty and then extended it. unfortunately that option is way out of my price range so no SHO for me...

Thank you all for the fantastic info and insight. and enjoy your SHOs a little more just for me.

Wow... Sounds like a real disaster... Someone probably ragged it out and didn't take care of it. Although some of it could just be TSBs that were not completed...

Would an extended warranty cover TSBs that were not completed prior?

My understanding is that anything they found an issue with does not qualify for the extended warranty. so I'd have to fix everything myself out of pocket, have it reevaluated and if it then passed, then I could get a warranty that would cover future issues.

Dealer estimated $2400 in repairs not even counting the sunroof issues which I was told could potentially be cheap at a small sunroof shop but through the dealer would be thousands. I took the report back to the dealer selling the car, gave him the report and he didn't even try to deal. he asked to make copies of the documents and said he'll hassle the supplier that sold him the car and then put it in a auction to get rid of it. Super duper.

Huh, well... I mean.. how does a reputable dealer sell a car without a shift ****? Sounds like a bad deal all the way around..

It was there just loose. Id guess there are a couple set screws that needed tightening and I would've been fine with that. but I can't inherit serious problems/costs under the hood/suspension etc.

that stinks.

there is a lesson here for all though: a non-Ford dealer who buys a Ford from a wholesaler is almost always buying something that the Ford dealer passed on, because the Ford dealer didn't want to deal with whatever issues exist. the reason is simple - the wholesaler can get more money for the car at the Ford dealer because the Ford dealer can sell it for a little more, but the Ford dealer is going to need it to be right. so they would sell the car to the Ford dealer unless the Ford dealer says "no" which I bet happened in this case. the old adage applies: if it seems too good to be true, it usually is.

the other side of the coin is that the Ford tech will always look for trouble on a car they are inspecting from another dealer, because they want to sell you a car from their inventory. so, some of that $2400 is stuff you can possibly talk them out of and still get the warranty.

your best opportunity, value-wise is almost always the 3-year old ones. because so many come off lease at 3 years old, there is more supply than demand (in general) and that drives down the prices at that age point.

don't give up hope though, there are more of them out there.
