Black out the whole grill. Make it look like a giant gaping maw. Leave Ford emblem floating in the middle.

Chrome to black(even on the bottom). Mesh to grey, maybe gunmetal. Black ford emblem and smoked lights.

I was looking at those pictures again, the calipers are a pretty decent size. The intercooler is also pretty decent. Anyways, to clarify my previous suggestion, if you're going to paint the chrome red, black chrome the mesh parts and smoke the headlights. If you keep the headlights clear, keep the chrome and just black chrome the mesh parts. My $.02 :)

edit: I added this picture with just the mesh part blackened... I like it!

Should have added a little more gradient to it, but overall looks pretty much how it would..

Shodwn redgrill

Oh Wow! :dribble: After seeing it, I like this a lot. If you did that, then maybe some of the bottom grille would need some red too, maybe the chrome trim, or else it looks like a big gaping black hole compared to the painted grille. I would lose the chrome trim on the lower grill either way, even if you just blacked it out because it would be the only chrome left and would look kinda funny IMO. I'm not a big chrome fan either and I would probably smoke or black out all of the chrome on the car.

One more thing, that I think I've recommended to beefcake and maybe you too, PonySHO, but what I think would also look nice is to get the LED accent/corner light trim pieces off of an SLO, because they're black, not silver, or just paint those black, to match.

That would work. After I saw how much it took to get at the headlights, smoking them looks like a ***** load of work. Without smoking them, I'd keep the chrome and just blacken the argent or mesh part inside the grille. I don't think you could do a black chrome on it without removing the grille.

Speaking of the LED accent/corner lights, I wonder what the purpose of them are. They're not bright enough for cornering lamps. Seems like a waste, but it's a good spot for some foglamps maybe. Eh, that would take some massive fabrication to make it work too.

Although I'm not a fan of the chrome, either, this looks very good. The red treatment up in post #17 would look good if the red was body color, and the mesh parts were black like in this photo.

I hope Ford would eliminate all of the small chrome surround trim pieces all over the car. It would be a royal PITA to do it yourself.

Here's a quick and dirty of the red/gunmetal grille one with the lower chrome trim blacked out, as well as the SLO LED accent trim on it:

Oh and to PonySHO: Yes those LEDs are non functional accent lights. I think they wanted to put fogs there, but probably didn't have the packagining space. They still wanted the sporty appearance of lower lamps, so that's what they came up with. Making those true fogs would be a pretty nice mod and they make pretty small projector style fog lamps now, that might be able to fit with some fabbing.

Yeah that dont look bad either.. well see what the paint guy says today, hes my best freind for many years and has been changing my mind for many of them. :)

Um intercooler? You cant see the intercooler from those pics.:p

I think im going to go with body color on the chrome, and matte black (the same that is on the lower grille) the grey. also where the little holes are is a solid panel behind it, im going to cut out the black panel behind the hole to improve air flow.

Hamal, no offense man but im old and duplicolor has always been rattle can junk (IMO) I grew up that way, I know some is good stuff but when you grow up looking at Duplicolor in the auto section of a department store you kind of this thats the cheesy stuff. D for the paint yes! But Dupont. :)

Kirk, I thought the intercooler was in front there with that black corrugated hose on the bottom right of the bumper. I figured that hose was conduit. Is it the outside air intake?

Let us know what your paint guy suggests. I think the argent, mesh part of the grille looks like a wiener riding a hard boiled egg.

That's exactly what I was thinking. That style of foglamp would go nice with the HIDs. Like you said, it would take some fabbing to make it look right. Maybe I could get Paul Teutil Jr. to make something up... they always say fabricate a lot on the show!

I think that's a good call on color choices. After looking at it, it kinda reminds me of my gen2's front end since it is abcent of any chrome except for the reflectors in the lights of course.

On the cutting of the holes in the grille, I would be a bit hesitant to do that, because you shouldn't have any cooling problems from the factory, unless your tune is causing increase operating temps. Having a more solid grille improves front end air flow and reduces overall drag, which is probably why Ford did it that way, plus it's a time consuming and meticulous process to cut each individual hole out to match the grille perfectly. You'll probably notice on a lot of new Fords that some of the grille is filled in like this and that's basically for improved aero and fuel economy. That's what they did on the Gen1's and 2's also. just my $.02

LOL, yea Paul Jr. can make some amazing stuff, when he's actually in the shop. My dad's shop might be able to help you out there, but they're not fabbing experts, more parts changers and repair work, so it would be tricky, but I'm sure my dad would be willing to take on the job, or pass it on to Kustom Korner, next door ;)

Air to the intercooler is under pressure, so it wouldn't be flex hose.

I was being facetcious about Paul Jr. :p Probably could make something up for a backing or mounting plate with an English wheel. Hey Kirk, sounds like a good mod to add to your list. Like they say, if it ain't broke, modify it.

FYI, there's plenty of space for fog/driving lamps there. The useless LED space would also make nice brake cooling ducts if one was so inclined.

The projection foglamps that typhoon5000 suggested would be perfect, but the work involved is more than I am willing to do. The wiring on the inside, locating the switch and making it all look factory not to mention fabricating something to fill the space where the LEDs are. It would be a great appearance mod. Those LEDs do light up the ground at night when you get out though if that's any consolation.
