Hey guys,

I went to Napierville Dragway yesterday. The temperature was around 55 F with a side/tail wind of about 10mph, humidity of 67%. The air was very «heavy» however, which translated in poor launching but good times and unbelievable trap speeds...
I will post the time slips in the At the drag section, but here are my times :

Once again very consistent : 7 runs, best of 12.674 and worst of 12.698!

60 ft yesterday were between 1.847 to 1.894
Mph rap speed between 110.26mph and 111.82 mph! (that is damn close to Darreli's trap speed... just E.T. missing still)

So, my new best is 12.674 at 111.68 mph. :woo-hoo:

But, if atmospheric pressure could be better, I believe I can make in the 12.5's... Season is reaching to an end, so hopefully I will make it happen this year, if not next year... At that time, maybe I will make my mind to convert to Methanol! lol!

Cheers and go see Top ten quickest under the At the drag section.

Steve : )

P.S. I filmed one run of 12.69 at 111.3 mph but decided to continue pushing it a bit to make a 0-200km/h (125mph). You can see it on youtube : 0-60 in 4.1; 0-100 in 10.5 and 0-125mph in around 16.5 sec.

Great Steve! Wish I could log a run like that. My car not being lowered must be holding me back.

Thanks Chris!
I start to believe that my custom exhaust is contributing... I have good trap speed and my mpg on a cruise is not as good as others... All-in, I would continue to chose performance over mileage! lol

Maybe, mine mileage wasn't great until I took on a long trip. Prior to was average 17.5mpg now 22mpg.

Great Runs... You obviously have better front traction than me! Have you ever had it shut down due to too much front spin? What were your launch RPMS approximately?

Launched at around 2K. Never has it shut down, but somtimes, rarely at the track though but in the street when I push it hard from a stop, the front wheels are hopping and I need to remove foot from gas pedal. I put it back to stock a few times and it seems that the wheels never hop, so it is the extra power t=from stage 4+ that causes that. I noticed that when my tires are warmer, it happens less often. Like the other day, at the track, I decided to be patient and let the car cool down for about an hour! Finally I could be able to have a run when the engine was cool... unfortunately, the front wheels went hopping for two times in a row... just enough so that the engine was warm again. so, next time, I will let the car cool down for an hour and then I am going to cruise around, not too fast doing a slalom to warm the tires and then hit the track.
I will try to go again one more time, if and when the combination of : 1) me having the time 2) favorable weather conditions and 3 ) the track being open (it is getting cooler and cooler up here).
If the occasion occur, I think I should see the 12.5's with my current setup...

What tire pressures are you running? May want to lower Front pressures relative to rears.
Also, try warming them up by going thru water box and then power braking to burn tires loose, which will clean them off as well as heat the fronts up a bit. Worked for me, the time I got my 12.9.

Good Luck!

NEVER do water with treaded tires. Beisies the problem with water trails, it accomplishes nothing.

As with any street tire, just do a short burn to clean them. Too much heat is counterproductive.

The water box was not very wet. I disagree about HEAT in tires when temps are in the 50's or lower. In 12 runs, I spun so much with my fronts relative to the rears, that the fuel system shut down as designed. The 3 runs that this didn't happen were after I attempted to clean & heat tires. May be a factor with my Conti DW's which may get harder/quicker in cold weather. Lost a .3 every time the fuel shut off, but still was in the 105-106 MPH range with a 5,000 lb vehicle.

With my FLA 08' G8, I regularly burn my tires in water box (285 Bridgestones) and have turned an 8.32 1/8 mi with a stock engined GT + middie headers. Have to heat them up to get them to bite properly... Otherwise they spin out of control.

Anyways, it is impossible for me to burn the tires, they just won't. Either I stay on place or move, but never spin... That said, most of the times, I don't have any issues at the track. The front wheel hopping occurs more in the streets, especially when tires are cold...
As for tire pressure, since I don't spin, I kept them I think around 35... Actually I didn't even check, I kept the same pressure as when I ask the guy at the garage to put them on the car lol!

steve whats your tire pressure at the track?
I think around 35... As I mentioned just above your post, I kept the same tire pressure as when the new ones got installed about 2 weeks ago. The car doesn't spin, so I don't see why I should remove air.

Hopping is a form of spinning... But if you don't HOP at the track, no need to change things unless you want to see what happens with lower front pressures. Know Darrell runs lower front pressures than rear, as do I, but just at the strip.

On the highway, since I am not out "killing" others (no good place to do it)... I run 40 all around. Hasn't affected wear of DW's (in 20K) and helps mileage.. but that's just me.

The second run ever with my 09' G8 with cam etc. it HOPPED all the way thru first with my street 275 Bridgestone's, even with them lowered to 25 lbs. My 60' was in the 2.4's!!! Now... with slicks, it bogs, but turns 2.04 60's. Can't power brake it due to extremely tight low RPM stock stall converter. Rears start to push fronts at around 1,200-1,400 RPM... If I could brake to the 2K like the SHO and FLEX, I would knock at least .2 off my 12.5 ET and maybe more. -----NEXT YEAR... 2,800-3,200.. Circle D converter---- YESSSS!

Wish one could put a stall converter successfully in our EB system, but with rear clutch slippage being the issue, it wouldn't do much good.
