Alright,
This is my problem- first when i started my car- the ACC of course was on full heat from last night- well i go to turn it to AUTO...so it would come on by itself- well after a few seconds my sound system cuts out and the ACC goes out and has no display- and my acc belts start squeeling bad- than i start driving and about 20 min down the road- the ACC has display and starts working and out of no where my sound system starts working- but than i change gears and it goes out again- but the radio has display but no sound- and the ACC cuts out completly- than i arrive to work 30 min later- and it started working better- but still sometimes cutting out.. what could be

Oh yea when the ACC cuts out- i remeber hearing a relay shutting off- is there a relay thingy controlling this thing under the hood-

Need help please anyone have this problem- its really cold here... thanx guys

for now try putting the selector in just the floor or vent position.

You have a compromised charging system.

Insufficient supply voltage to the ACC will cause it to turn on and off erratically and to loose control of the system.

Since you had a screaming accessory belt, you already know there is some problem with the charging system.

Concentrate your efforts on the belt, the alternator, the battery, and the associated wiring.

Fix that and you have a good chance of solving the problems with the climate control.

i'd have to agree with steve...

i had a failing battery last year, and one of the symptoms leading up to its final demise was the climate control and stereo would pop off and on every now and then (as if power was momentarily disconnected from them)... a new battery fixed my problem... in your case, i'd say that squealing belt would be a good place to start (as steve said).

good luck

OK GET THIS GUYS- sorry caps.. umm- went to good ole auto zone... tested alt- and they said it was fine - but driving there was fine but on the way home it was acting up- the alt passed at 14.87 volts- 65 amps- and than when i got home- i looked at my digital amp- and it read 16.7 volts(its never that high i would be lucky to see 13 volts) than when i hit the gas alittle the amps would shutoff from being overkill voltage- now would it be a alt or a battery at this point- im pretty sure were colose- its one of the 2.. and i always have had the stupid squeeling off and on- but not as bad as now.. and sometimes the squeel is all gone- but sometimes its juste totally loud..

so basically its between alt and batt- and both are very new and under warranty of course- i replaced battery more recently than the alt- but for some reason i think its the battery just because i saw that it leaked in the last few months when i took it out for something- and now the cold weather is making it go hay wire- but than why would i be able to start it ok and no problem.. so than again it leads me to the alt- im so frustrated.. i cant be stranded with no heat--- grr..

Sounds to me like your regulator is crapping out... What year SHO do you have? early models have fender-mounted regulators and others have regulators built into the alternator...

my experience with bad regulators has shown that when they do start to die they go from not allowing the alternator to charge the battery, to overcharing the battery... very erratic sometimes.

If you have a built in regulator (or stato??) Id take the alternator back where you got it and have it bench tested... something aint right.

the regulator is built in the alt- i have a91.. im pretty sure its my alt now- just because a battery cant put out over 14.4 v... so something else has to be pushing it over that and only thing is alt- but now im in a jam- because the place i bought it from says i need the receipt well i think i lost the reciept- so this might nto be coverd under warranty- that isnt right- they told me it was by phone number for warranty.. grrrr.

this is bad- i found the culprit- i went for a drive today again- and after i was done i went to open the hood and the check the alt- of course its so freakin hot- than i hear somethign sizzling- i find out the battery is sizzling- the fluid inside is so hot from overcharging from the alt- the alt is indeed bad... so off to the auto part store for another one.. this sux

also will a battery explode if sizzles enough- how bad is that- im sure it cant be good

The battery should be fine... I dont think it would explode wink

Did I read somewhere that you bought and autozone alternator? My dad had a recent run-around with autozone alternators... went through 3 in a month. Good thing they had the warranty (i guess)

He wound up talking a clerk into giving him his original $$ back for the alternator... then went and bought a cheapo NAPA one instead. 6 months later and no problems.

whats so weird is since its so high voltage in my car- that if i leave my headlights on the ACC will not go off- but if i turn the headlights off ass soon as i hit the gas my ACC goes off- it hit a high of 17.9 v today- this thing is crazy- hope it makes it to the garage tomrrow

Peace

wow... with that high of voltage Im surprised you didnt cook anything! It all sounds like a bad regulator. Simply swapping out the alternator should solve it!

Anyhow, good luck with the alternator swap...

Just had to pop in a new alternator myself. Let me give you a couple tips. First, the old one will probably be a pain to get off, as it has a sort of hinge design holding it down. The new one will be even harder to get on as a result. I covered up the holes in the alternator, and started filing down the tabs. If you have the problem (new one is extremely difficult to get in because of the two tabs next to each other that the bolt went through), you might try this. It takes quite a bit of filing, and keep checking it, so it isn't loose when in place. And be sure to cover the alternator with a rag or something to keep out metal shavings! :)

Second, make sure the connection on the alternator with the 2 wires coming from it is completely in. I thought it was in, but it wasn't, which led to about 2 weeks of mysterious lack of charging! :p

Alright,
first i know how to replace an alt- i already did it once- and it ain't hard at all- but thank you for hints and tips- but the problem with ACC shuting off is indeed an alt problem- and since my alt was charging at 18v it cooked my batt- so now i have a new battery- new alt- new belt- put all of them in yesterday... worked fine for alittle while but now- its doing exact same thing when the other one failed... its start squeeling due to load- causing it to freeze up- than the voltage regulater starts to act up causing it to fry- i hate these freakin alt.. i went through **** to get this one under warranty- and now i need to take it out again and get another one- this sux.. future reference- make sure ur new alt works before you put it in-
