After a few adventures working on my 95 SHO, I've decided that I'd rather NOT do the timing belt/ front main seal/ water pump service on my car. It's got about 130K on it and the front seal may be starting to leak. I called a shop that was reccomended to me. After checking with his mechanics and checking the computer to see what was required, he called back and said that they don't have the proper tools to do my car and none of his guys had worked on SHO. I'm back to square one. I'm in So.Cal. and need the job done. The San Bernardino area is the closest big city. If I have to drive further than that, to get it done right, I will. Any suggestions ?

I will do the service for you, i have done 3 full 60k's. I charge $350 for the service (labor only), you supply parts. To drive from here (central coast) to san bernadino, i would only ask $50 for gas, for a total of $400. if interested, my e-mail is [email protected] and my cell # is 925 785 4474

Thanks for the offer SHOnuff. I'll certainly keep you in mind. That would make for a very long day wouldn' it ? How long do you figure it would take to replace those three things ?

The timingbelt/water pump/cps (should be done) takes about 6-8 hours depending on how easy your enigne comes apart (sometimes things just want to stay where they are).

sunny San Juan Bautista,
Shoot, maybe I should offer my services. I'm even poorer than Tyler. Tyler's got all his sugar mommas to keep him bathed in the green, lol!

Hmmm. I forgot about the Crank Postion Sensor.

I was thinking about the water pump instead. So I guess I should do the timing belt/water pump/main front seal/CPS.

That's a long day.

to do the water pump, you should remove the cps to prevent it from gettin all wet, to remove the cps you remove the timing belt, while those 2 are off the front main seal is like a 10 minute job. not really a hard job, you can do it yourself with a few tools.

Shonuff,

For some reason, my track record for working on this car is not so good. See my post about brakes, one about the valve covers, and one on the oil cooler. Something is still not right about the rear brakes. The valve covers took three tries before the rear one didn't leak and the oil cooler has been replaced but there is STILL a bit of an oil leak in that area. All of those jobs took longer than they should have and two oout of three where not entirely successfull. At this point I would rather pay for a job well done AND in a timely manner. Heck, I'd drive it to San Diego, if I knew of a shop that could do it right !

It's not that I haven't worked on cars. I've rebuilt a 78 Honda motor. I've worked on our 92 Jeep. I'm in the middle of restoring a 65 Mustang. For some reason, this car doesn't fix well, when I'm on the other end of the wrench.

What special tools are required ? I've read the description of how to do it, but a local shop said they needed tools they don't have.

there are no special tools required to do the timing belt/ water pump/ cps/ front main seal. you need 10mm socket, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm. a 5 and 6 mm allen wrench,3/4" for the crank bolt and a set of pullers. a few misc extensions here and there, a philips screw driver for the cps....if you want me to make a list of how to do it, step by step, with the required tools e-mail me and i can get you through it. Good luck gettin this thing done

John,
The best tutorial I've seen to do all aspects of the 60k service is the video Mark N. and Sho Nut sell. Mark is selling a batch on ebay right now for $19+ shipping. I've got one and I highly recommend it.
