Ok, I recently replaced my 89's MFS Because it melted on the inside. It lasted a little bit longer after I "fixed" it with a guitar pick, but that only lasted a while.

My brand new switch gave me the melting wire smell the other day while I was driving my girlfriend back to brooklyn from new paltz, an 88 mile drive. I didnt have the fog lamps on, only the headlights were on.

Is there any friggin' way to fix this switch, or do something that will make it so I wont have to replace it again?

Create a headlamp circuit using relays and wire them directly to the battery.

You can wire up a Bosch style relay like this;

First cut the low beam wire going to the headlamp plug.

Pin #85 goes to the car side of the wire you just cut
Pin #86 goes to ground
Pin #30 goes to the headlamp side of the wire you cut
Pin #87 goes to the battery

I would use alteast 14 awg wire for pins 87 and 30.
I think you will find that your headlamps will be much brighter as I've seen as much as a 1 Volt line drop even on newer vehicles, in a 12 volt system this is just unacceptable. You can also do the same for the fogs.

Thanks, i will prepare to do it as soon as possible. Also, where can I get a relay like the one described and I need one relay per light right?

Actually, I found a site that had all the info on installing the relays already. I happen to already have one of those type of relays at home so I just went and bought myself another relay and the cable spool that I needed. Thanks to all for your help. I will update once I get the relays in place. :)
