I just got done reading the rod bearing install guide. I am not sure I can get into all of that...whew it sure seems like a major hassle to do. Having to turn the motor over and remove the starter? ouch.

I have the rod bearing kit but man I have already had this car down for way too long and I need the gas mileage back like a month ago.

Turning the motor is easy. You put a cheater pipe on a ratchet with a 19mm socket, slip that on the crank bolt and rotate clockwise as much as you need to go. Piece of cake. Nothin' to it.

The starter is the easy part.

Its removing the y-pipe and replacing any broken exhaust studs thats the hard part.

Its actually a really easy job. Just budget yourself some time and then some to make sure you accomplish it properly.

I did mine last week and it wasnt bad at all. It was my first time too. The hardest part for me was getting the oil pan back on right, everything else was a breeze. It took me about 7 hours

Bah! That's the easy part over here...or at least tied for it. Y-pipe nuts spin right off. My 200,000 mile studs are just fine thank you. Of course I put anti-seize on 'em during install and shoot them with PB Blaster when I want to take them off, but that's just for show (and smell! :p )

I've got oxy-acetylene...but you know, I've never had to use it on a nut or bolt. Ever. My advice to folks who like to work on cars but live in the salty, rusty, snowy parts: Move.

The worst part of a rod bearing job is the oil dripping on your face.

If all else fails, we've heard rumors that once someone overwhelmed by the prospect of changing their rod bearings just put them in the oil filler and called it a motor. :bonk:

that just might work?!?!? :nut:

if you are able to... drain the oil the night before, and let it drain overnight.. that way your not getting alot of other oil drip's.. but there will be some... cant avoid it.

When I did my red car, the car had sat for 6+ months, I had absolutely no oil in my face . The motor was completely out of my white car when I did the rod bearings in that motor.

I did the rod (and main) bearings out of the car also when I was doing my 3.2 swap. It took like half an hour tops. The valve gaping procedure only took 15 minutes

Funny you mention that cuz it took half a bottle of shampoo to get my elvis hair doo out  Oh and ive still got a big bump on my forehead from dropping the pan on my face. Wanna be careful about that :thumb:
