how did it break? does the whole switch push into the housing when you try to activate it? or does it stay put, just doesnt open/close the roof.

the switch is held on by like 4 little dabs of liquid nails on each corner of the housing. when mine broke from wear and tear i jbwelded the housing in nice and snug.

no probs now :)

but your switch is fine, its the method that ford used to attach the switch to that control box that has worn.

try carefully removing that control centre and you'll see where i'm coming from. start by popping out the lense for each map light and you will find a single screw on either side. once they are out you can slide the whole piece towrd the back of the car till its out completly.

it need to come out if you want to install a new switch anyways.

try not to bust anything in removing it either ;) some of the clips holding it in are a tad fragile.

I tried three napa switches when my moonroof switch broke. They all burned out after the first try. Found a whole consol, switch and all at the junkyard in a taurus GL. The switch does not have to come out of a SHO.

Yup, the second one burned out too. I pressed the button and nothing happened. Then I pressed the open direction and it made the click noise, but not on the side I pushed first. I'm now trying to find a junkyard with a SHO in it.
I think I need the whole console, as I kind of reuined mine when tons of things starting breaking...

I can be able to use a regular taurus with a sunroof though?

I also bought a napa switch awhile ago. Hooked it up.....and.....nothing. It moved the roof once, then never again.

Guess it stays open, in the garage, and out of the rain....

I'm guessing that since others bought more than one switch and it failed, I won't be going that root again.

What's another fix? Besides finding another entire console?

I ended up taking two more screws out after the console was off and then attached a hand window crank to where the motor connects on the roof and closed it. Make sure to get a crank that has metal threading, not plastic as that will strip and you need another crank. Goodluck getting the piece of metal with the motor attached back on though. I guess you need to allign the 2 pieces where a yellow line is on the part that spins. Also it's hard to line up.

Outsourcing?

What the heck- has there been a bad set of NAPA switches lately or something? Jeez! Sounds like the amperage of that switch may be right at the limit or something...

I was thinking the same thing. Or maybe the switch itself is different than what it was a few years ago. Maybe Napa changed suppliers, something like that.

Thanks, was looking for directions on this, just want to crank it up, so the roof sits up snug. I hear a click in the dash, each direction, used to move an inch or so at a time, now just getting a click, like a relay around the glove box. Is there a relay there and does it fail?
