I seldom use the slide function, mainly just using tilt, but I have used it a few times this summer and a couple of weeks ago it stopped operating in slide, refusing to open, though tilt was still fine. No sound, no relay click or anything, just nothing happening.

So, I guessed fuse, but in a check of the fuse lists, it was not obvious which it was, so I let it go and only got around to getting back to it yesterday. As a check, first I tried the slide, and darned if it did not work. OK, anyone have any practice with these moon roofs for a guess as to what is happening here? Ran it back and forth a bit and sprayed in some silicon lubricant in the area of the slides, as it could not hurt. Past that, I have no idea.

Thoughts?

sounds like the switch stopped working for slide? if you're not hearing any click or anything, sounds like electricity's not getting to the motor. Try removing the cover and see if the switch is getting power... and transmitting it.

If it had not restarted working on its own with nothing having been done at all, I would tend to agree. But intermittent electrical connections tend to spurt and sputter when dealing with motors, that is it moves some, then it stops, then it moves a bit again, etc. This did not exhibit that. And broken connections, which is what it did act like, do not fix themselves.

But I probably should do as you suggest and pull the cover for a look and a poke with a multimeter anyway.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Didn't Silvapain have moon roof problems this summer? Or was he just missing the headliner cover.

I have no experience with them, but maybe a used parts supplier (Midnightauto) could hook you up with another motor if yours finally hits the fan.

Yes I did.

The headliner cover actually goes back quite a ways and has a plastic and metal support bar that runs the width of the moonroof track. That bar can get stuck. Also, my main problem was bits of plastic fomr my shattered healiner cover jamming between the tracks and the moonroof. Electrically, the unit was perfectly fine.

My plastic trim piece broke off and was ingested by the moonroof as it slid back. Had a hard time getting it to close again and now it is dysfunctional. I got it closed and removed the motor. Another 1.5 lbs removed and at from the highest part of the car too. :thumb:

LOL. Soon, all that will be left of that car is you and a fresh garden salad, Paul! ;)

Oh, and off topic, but what was the best advice about stopping warpage of the front rotors, I forget?

It has been my experience the rotors seldom actually warp. I have found that when mine start to wobble if I go out and use them aggressively then it goes away. Usually it is brake pad material that builds up on the rotor, not actual warpage or over torquing.

Uneven torquing may warp them but it has never happened on my car and I don't use a torque wrench. And I tighten them to over 120 lb/ft too.

Thanks Dan. If it happens again, I guess I need to take down the liner and look.

When I said headliner cover I meant the carpeted sliding panel that covers the moonroof. I don't know the proper term for that piece, and I didn't want you to think I was talking about the headliner itself and tear it down for no reason.

Moon Roof switch housing

I have a '93 MTX used only for cruising now. My moon roof was functioning until the rocker collapsed indide of the housing. I got the housing open & found a wat to resucure the switch but now I can't get the housing to re-secre. Quite frankly, the clip system makes no sense. Anyone got a suggestion?
