very annoying
ok so last year i had to get my alternator swapped out and a new one put in
the next day the battery light was flashing and lights dimming very bad
that same day the car came off the road and sat for about a year (personal problems)

it went back on the road last week
still has dimming lights and flickering battery light
ok now the battery light shuts off but everything stays wicked dim
driving down the highway going about 90 with wipers on full speed and i cant see anything
well i could see some
but it was hard
as i get closer to home everything keeps getting slower and dimming more
yet no battery light
my abs light is on again after ive already changed the fuse
they have been fine for the past week
i measured the voltage at the battery running, parking lights, and slow wipers
about 9.6 volts
oh and the belt was squealing pretty well

theres more
im getting about 8-9 mpg
i have to keep my overdrive off or else the light blinks and it shifts real funny
so i hit the highway and going about 70-90 it stays up in the 5-6 rpm range
i take my foot off the gas and it sticks with the gear keeping my rpms real high

im getting so fed up with this
i love this car but its such a piece of crap

im really thinking about selling it unless anyone has any idea on what kind of crap is going on with my car thats not going to cost an arm and a leg to fix

First thing I would do is to get your alternator and battery tested for free at an auto parts store.

You should be seeing 13+ volts at idle on the battery. You may have installed a bad alternator...who knows?

there are quite a few threads about people who have gotten junk alternators from the parts stores. If I needed to replace my alternator, I would spend the extra money and get either a Westling, a Ford, or a hand-rebuild by a local shop. The labor of installing the alternator makes it essentially worthless to install a random AutoZone alternator--even w/ the warranty, you'll probably end up taking the first 2 or 3 back within a few months and that's a job I only want to do once.

yeah about that alternator
at the time the one that came with it went i was very intimidated by the work required to replace it so i called one shop
they first tried arguing with me trying to tell me my car isnt a v8
then said it would cost $500 bucks

HAHA *click* next
second shop said $330 and did it
like i said the car came off the road and i wasnt able to go back to the shop to ***** and moan
i have every recipt for my car except that one which makes me think they didnt even give me one
i even have the recipt for my stereo system
but i dont even remember
i dont even know if it was a rebuilt or what brand it is
so i was told theres a place in the next town that will rebuild it
and after what i was charged for a garage to do it and the much gained experience and confidence with car work im gonna yank it myself and reinstall myself saving bunches of money
