Yes, after I changed my oil yesterday, I'm not getting a reading on the dip. It was fine all yesetday & most of today. In the last mile on my way home, rpm dropped to 200-300 on shifts, oil light came on. It smelled & felt hot under the hood. Yes, the filter & drain plug are still intact & did tighten them pretty well yesterday? This seems like a serious problem to me, any suggestions?

Did your low oil light come on? When this happened? How much low was it exactly? You should check your coolant for oil. If none found check everywhere under your car for oil. Fill the pan again if the car is not parked on a clean spot place a bunch of unfolded cardboard boxes around under the car and then get someone to start it as you lay on the ground and watch for oil leaks. The oil has to be going somewhere in the coolant out the exhaust or on the ground.

the old oil filter seal could still be on the block, and may be causing your leak. Fill your dipstick, start the engine and have someone under the car to see where it comes out. only run it for a second or two if you see the oil light. that should give you a good idea of where its coming from

I'd agree with smithsil... if you've never had a problem with oil leakage in the past, I'd either assume the drain plug wasn't reinstalled correctly or the old oil filter seal came off the old oil filter and is still on the car. If that's the case installation of the new filter over the old seal will cause a MAJOR leak... the first time I ever did an oil change on my old 89 that's what happened.. always be sure to look under the car after you start her back up to check for major leaks!
