hey guys im having a problem with my sho stalling. heres the story. burned up an alt belt the other night like 60 miles from home (damn no AAA). well i went and trailerd the car home the next day (tuesday). now thursday i get around to checking it out and changing the belt. i get the new belt on and im thinkin its gonna be all good no frozen pullies like i originaly thought (due to belt being burned through). so i get it all together and go to start the car. now this car before today almost always (90%) would start first crank and never had an idle problem. at least for the month ive owned it. well i get in the car to start it up and she starts fine but as soon as i remove foot from pedal RPM's drop and stall. if i hold my foot on the pedal and keep her at 1000 shes good no funny sounds or nothin. now these are the codes i have pulled. keep in mind its around 40-45 here today and the car was not warm.

KOEO:
114
memory:

KEOR:
first time: 116, 172,167,225
after a little while with batery disconnected:
116,172,137,538

any and all help is appreciated.

If it runs fine with your foot in it, and not when you get it go, that usually means your IAB (idle air bypass)/IAC (idle air control) is not doing it job...idling the car.

Some try and clean them, but I have found replacing it is much better and resolved my idling problems ever since.

correct it idles fine when my foot is on the pedal. then when i release the pedal it idles to stall. this did not happend before i had the belt burn up. so why would just replaceing a belt cause this to happen. that is the part that has me stumped. i mean if it had happened all by itself or was giving me problems before i wouldnt be so stumped. just the fact that it happened now after just a belt replacement seems kinda funny. i guess it could all be coincidence but idk. thanks for the feedback though if ya can think of anything else ill be here to listen.

Probably just b/c your were in there messing with stuff. They randomly go out too...at least mine did. Check to make sure it just didnt come unplugged.

You got your belt fixed, another problem has to arise....a SHO can never have no problems! You just got to pick one that you can deal with and not fix it.

i suppose that possible if you made it way to tight. maybe you should loosen it a bit.

You could have the belt too tight.

You could also have a bad bearing, or problem on one of the other pullies that belt runs on. Why did the belt burn up? Was it old? Or do you have a bigger problem you haven't found yet?

I would take the belt off and turn all of the pullies by hand listening for any unusual noise, roughness, etc.

The IAB does control idle, however this seems like a little more than coincidence.....

well as for the question on why the belt burned up. my guess is the belt was old but that isnt what looked like made it go. it actually looked burned like a pulley froze and it was just rubbing till it burned through. so i believe that there may be a bigger problem that i havent pin-pointed yet. originally i thought it was the ac that froze because i could see about a 2 inch portion of this pulley that looked like the belt had been rubbing on. ie it looked black like rubber burn. but from inspecting the ac, alt, and tensioner they all seem to spin fine with no noise. the only one that seemed to have a little resistance was the tension. but from the look of the belt it was the grooved side that had all teh damage. so i am still troubleshooting on why the belt went. as soon as i have that figured ill let yall know.
but as for my idleing problem. that problem has seemed to correct itself. i decided that id just use the double pedal method (brake, throttle) to get my wife to work. i coulda taken the truck but i figured id stop at advance and have them to a volt test (incase belt was to tight) while i kept the car at idle. well about the fifth time i started teh car at advance it just idled low for a second then went back to normal. so idk it just corrected itself. although i did notice a loose intake bolt which i hand tightened right after the idle went back to normal. so idk if it caused a vaccum leak or what but whatever was messed up with the idle has now gone away. as for the bigger problem on why my belt went south ill figure that out soon (i hope), but as for now ill remember to keep spare belts in the trunk.

thank you all for the advice it is always appreciated and i hope to be able to give some back soon.

ps. im gonna go over all vaccum lines tomorrow and replace as neccesarry since i noticed a couple of shotty ones today. im thinkin that it was more of a vaccum leak than anything else.

Your belt could be too tight. Although, for the car to not even idle, it would seem to me that you would have to have that belt tighter than shiat and a pulley frozen. The engine has enough power at idle to shread a belt...it has happened to me.

As for it just fixing itself..this is another sign of the IAB going out. They work fine...then they dont work...then they work again...then they are out again.

I have a strange feeling that this problem will arise for you again.
