A friend of mine has a 95 MTX with UDP's. WP, ALT, and Crank possibly (not absolutely sure). Problem is, when he goes to turn the steering while its not in motion, it gets extremely stiff stuttering while you turn the wheel, and makes a loud wine noise that comes from the belt area. The other day, he said he had a mechanic look at it, and sprayed some heavy duty WD-40. Now it makes the noise as if the belt was slipping all the time when accelerating. I'm more concerned as to why the steering gets so stiff (as if its got NO power steering) when trying to turn the wheel when parked. Power steering pump going south? The rack? Any ideas?

PS pump is shot if it has fluid in it. Usually they will sound like a a sick whale=moan, groan. If fluid is full, pull the belt & spin PS pulley by hand. If feels good, could be the rack. Try replacing all PS fluid by pumping it all out from the PS cooler lines. Takes 3 people-you catching old fluid at front, one refilling resivour (sp?), one turning steering wheel lock to lock while engine idles.
