my 93 mtx has been down for about 3 months without a battery for maintenance, ive got everything back together and have triple checked all connections. i was attempting to do the idle air reset but have so far been unsuccessful. it will idle just fine for about 30-40 sec. and then start surging to the point that it stalls. prior to the start of this maintenance, this was a good running car, with overall good parts. i had no IAB problems before and i find it hard to believe that it got clogged/messed up sitting on a shelf. i continued to try the idle air reset for a whilem enough that the engine was good and warm. my question is this:

does the engine need to be cold for the reset to work properly

im not against pulling the IAB off and checking it and/or cleaning it but i really don't think that is an issue. im not sure of codes since ive pulled off the negative cable to sit overnite and then try again tomorrow.

Here is some more info: the car is still on 4 jack stands and the brakes need to be bled. the exhaust was repaired a while ago at a shop and they welded the y-pipe directly to the single exhaust pipe going back.So i had to cut the y-pipe off to remove it. i cannot weld and a friend of mine welded the y-pipe to the exhaust pipe but its not perfect and i am taking it to a shop to be done properly. so can the exhaust leaking add to the issue of the idle not resetting/stabilizing?

All relevant/helpful advice is welcome. i want my SHO back on the road!!!

It sounds like a vacuum leak. Did u take off the inlet tube for anything? You said the IAB was sitting on a shelf. Did you put a new gasket on it and torque it down properly? There's also that plastic clip that goes on the IAB that holds vacuum lines that run to the secondary solenoids. Did u pull the vacuum lines loose by accident?

Or worse, maybe something in the ECU went bad. A similar thing happened to me while my '92 was down for a while. It wouldn't idle worth a damn and was sluggish and hard to start. It turned out it had a bad ground. Pin 46 I think(gray wire with a red stripe). You should pull codes. And if it has a bunch of sensors out of range, look at a schematic and see if they have a common ground. Good luck!
