Where is a good place to drill thru firewall for running a large 0 awg wire? Should I run thru driver or passenger (shorter run) side?

what model SHO do you have? you might not have to drill. the gen 2's have a grommet in the right front where the fender meets up to the door (ope the door and look where the hinges are, youll see it). this grommet plugs a hole that goes into the passenger kickpanel. thats hows i ran my wires. and no i dont get any rain water in there.

Oh... I have a Gen II (95).... Whew...!!
I was almost certain I have to drill after opening up the hood and not finding anything to put wire through. Are you sure this will fit a 0 awg wire, b/c that wire is pretty BIG. I could have used 2 awg, but since they were same price, I want w/ the 0 awg. I might have to do more digging to see the spot you're mentioning. I may need your help (more), if I'm not able to find. Do I need to do any cutting of the grommet... or will it just insert right through?

Actually there is a good size grommet under the stearing coloumn or around that area. Its on the fire wall. I fit a 4guage wire with lots of room. That would be easy for any wiring.

So then there are 2 large grommets for the gen II SHO?? I prefer to use whichever one that will result in shortest wire run. Being that battery is on passenger side, I would think that one on right side. Anyway, where did everyone mount their fuse box under the hood?

2200+ watts rms.... 2000 (2 OPTI 1000.1D's -- lots of headroom) to subs & 200 to front 6 1/2" components.
All Lanzar 'OPTI' drive amps (NOT the other really cheap LANZAR cr*p). I wanted to get 2 Awg, but no wiring kit offered for 2 awg frown

I ran 2ga under the car along the frame.
From the battery back to the firewall, down under the car along the frame then up behind the rear fascia through a grommet there, been this way for 2 years with absolutely no problems.

Might take a look at that.....

If you do run it externally it is not a bad idea to run it in a piece of PVC with clamps to the car to protect it and you from an odd "mishap". You would also need to make sure to stay away from any exhaust.

Although most wouldn't have any problems with it, 0 gauge can do A LOT of damage before the wire burns in half in the case of an accidental short or something.

I looked at the car more closely. I think I see what you are referring to... although it doesn't seem to go through the car (maybe I gotta tear up the interior to see the opening). The grommet seemed a tad small to fit a 0 awg wire. So.... how did you run the wire? It looks like by opening & closing the door, the "hinge" side of the door will sub against the wire (potential shorting
shrug )

Be sure to put a 250 A fuse at the battery. I ran THHN 2ga under the car. Enclosed it in a double layer of split tubing. Came up through the fender drain groumnet.

Just like "shooing off", huh... I don't like the idea of running the large power wire on the exterior. I want to run this wire internally (seems to be more complicated). Anybody have any pics of the grommet locations, so I see what everyone's referring to?

Is your Gen2 an ATX or a MTX? This may help your decision-making process considerably.

In my 93 ATX, I ran a 4 AWG wire through the grommet next to the brake pedal that would normally be used for the clutch pedal. 0 AWG should fit through there, but you may need to remove the grommet and use an alternate method to fill the hole. If you have a MTX, then you may want to consider the passenger side option.

I used this spot on my 92 and also on someones 91. On my 93, that gromet is used and has a harness running through it. I just ran 4 ga today and I used the gromet for where the power antenna harness goes through. I think 4 ga is as big as will fit. I'm really happy with how it came out becuase I don't have all that wiring running across the firewall anymore.

It's definately MTX. I also prefer to run in on passenger side, as the wire run will be shorter. I just need to find an existing grommet that will allow a 0 awg wire going through it - I don't wanna have to DRILL :p

I put my battery in the trunk. This is why I have the 250A fuse.

Whatever your needs be sure to fuse such a long run of large cable. Nothing worse than having a conductor capable of melting a hole in the car and no way to stop it if it shorts out.

How did you strap wire to frame of car? I'm assuming just zip ties or something... I prefer to run on interior as our winters are super cold here, but if I'm not able to find a big enough grommet and somewhere safe to DRILL, then I might have to go the exterior route.

I don't think you'll find a gromet that is accessible on both sides of the firewall on the passengers side. There are a few that I saw in the engine bay, but where they come out in the interior are usually burried very hi in the dash. Like I said before, 1/0 isn't going to fit in the antenna gromet, but maybe you can enlarge the hole and use a bigger groment? You can see if from the inside of the car, its behind the blue airbag computer to the right on the inside of the dash, after you drop the glove box to the floor.
