Anybody get an e-mail from a Jonathan Wyatt? I just got it at the address I have listed on v8sho.com. Here's what he wrote . . .
Hi there,
I realize you don't know me, but I got your email off of the v8sho site. I hope you don't mind the email.
I'm in Abbotsford, BC Canada. I just bought a 97 SHO. It's a beauty. However, it hesitates at 60km/h (~40mph) and 90km/h (~55mph). The previous owner told me that this is a common problem with these, that some magnet inside may have fallen off and at these two speeds is when it gets out of whack. He also told me that it's a design flaw from Ford, that there's nothing actually wrong with the cam position sensor, and that it's apparently a $3500 job for someone to get in there and fix it. He's also (allegedly) spent $2500 trying to fix this until they found out what it was.
I've searched and searched and I'm not finding anything relating to camshaft position sensors or cam magnets causing anything like this. I did also find some stuff about vulcan engines with camshaft sensor magnets falling off the assembly, but I'm not sure if this would apply to the yamaha built v8 SHO engines (I doubt it).
The only thing I'm finding is talk about cam sprockets falling off and causing engines to go boom, but that doesn't sound like what this guy told me. I did not notice a ticking with the engine, but the idle lopes a bit.
Any ideas?
thanks for your time.
Jonathan
If anybody that didn't receive this would like to respond, I can PM you his e-mail address.
