If anyone is interested, there is a stereo speaker repair center in Charlotte NC (http://SpeakerDoctor.com) that will rebuild the original JBL sub-woofer in the SHO at a pretty resonable price as compaired to having to replace everything with different parts. I removed the speaker from the sub case & delivered it to the store & they charged me $15 parts & $15 labor. In my case they did a "Refoam" of the speaker & tested. It was affordable & easy for me.

Just adjust the bass to max and the treble to minimum and boost the volumn to 50% or higher & you'll know if the sub-woofer is still good. If you don't get distortion or rattle you're probably still OK.

Mine was blown so I took it out and used 2 part epoxy to fix the foam were it had ripped. Prolly not the best way but it works until I can find a replacement.

You can buy a JL Audio 8w3 and it will fit perfect. I have one for sale right now with the stock JBL box and only used for less than one week.

When my stock woofer died I bought a 10''. You just have to widen the woofer box a bit and drop it in. The amp powers the bigger woofer fine and adds a considerable amount of bass compared to the stock setup without redoing the entire system.....

Didn't think a 10'' would fit. Could get a nice sounding 10'' and an aftermarket amp. Maybe I should have gone that route instead of my Kicker L7 Solobaric that blows itself out of the box when I turn it up.... Just knew the 8'' would fit so I went with that set up. I like how you still keep your trunk space.

I just cut a big enough hole for a 10" sub....then dropped it in. It needs some tuning (just grabbed an extra 10 I had lying around just to see if it would work)...but works and fits fine.

yep the ten sounds really good for being in such a small box...

i would have had a ten in mine, but i cut the hole too big... :slap: :slap: :slap: dam i felt like a *******.... and i work with systems all the time....

i wanted to run an 8''... as that would be a good balance between highs-lows.... as where the 10'' is only good for mids and highs... and on the occasion, a low or two...
really depends on the speaker though...

But yes the stock amp will power a 10'' enough for a nice sounding system... nothing over the top, but a nice overall balance...
