Well, I just purchased a '94 MTX and knew of a few issues before i bought it. First and most important, I have some issues shifting into 1st or 2nd when the car is stopped or slowly rolling. Now this only occurs after the car has been driven for like 10 minutes. After like 10 minutes basically the shifter won't go into gear. If i depress the clutch say 8 times it will eventually go in. I don't hear grinding or smell the clutch burning or have any other problems with the clutch/transmission like slippage. I was told when i purchased it that the clutch cable was just worn and needed replaced. When I brought it in the shop, the mechanic told me that it looked like the shift linkage had been welded back together at some point. Now i know that is a somewhat common thing (due to lack of linkages being made, correct). Could that be what my problem is? I really don't think it is the clutch. Maybe the syncros? Need some help since this is my daily driver.

Get under the car cand check the shifter joint and clevis carefully. If there is a lot of slop, or it's frozen solid shifting will be a pain! Been there, done that.

sounds like it could be broken fingers on the PP, too. that's exactly what the situation with my '93 MTX was when i got it. if the car is NOT running, do you have any issues hitting all the gears?

i don't have the car right now but i guess if i remember right when the car is off and it won't go into first then it also wouldn't go into any gear. but like i said, this only problem happens say 40% of the time after the car has warmed up a bit.

say i stop at a stop light and i forgot to go into first before i stop (i only do this because of my problem). then i may have problems getting into first. when i start accelerating from the green light i have no problem shifting again until i stop again.

exactly the same symptoms i had (moving) with broken PP fingers...but parked, with the car off, i could grab every gear.

my money is on the PP or TOB...sounds like a clutch job may be in your future...but i'd definitely check the linkage and clutch cable first.
