Interior Lighting Issue

So when I bought my '90 all the interior lighting bulbs were removed and the lights around both keyholes on the doors were stuck on. If I put a bulb in any of the sockets it will stay on constantly. I don't think it's a door switch because the door ajar light only comes on when a door is open. Is there a module that controls interior lighting on these cars? If so, where is it located? Any help is appreciated.

Does the roller switch (above the brake pedal) click on and off

Are you referring to the dimmer switch? I replaced mine with a gen 2 style switch because they seem to work better. It didn't change anything though.

How do you remove the switches in the door jamb?

I don't have a Gen 1, but on my Gen 2, it looks like there is a nut holding the switch in place
Maybe someone else with a Gen 1 can chime in
