I am awaiting a 6-CD changer from a '99 Sable that I'd like to stick in my '97 SHO. I have the harness coming also, I am wondering if there is anything special I have to do to put it in there, besides plug and play. Does it plug into the radio sending unit in the trunk?

Thanx!

If i were you, i would reroute the wiring to somewhere in the car so you dont have to get out of the car to change CDs... Biggest PITA is a trunk mounted changer if u ask me.

My CD changer always skipped when i hit bumps and wouldnt play burned CD's so I re-wired the cassette player to an audio jack and hooked it up to my ipod... Just a thought

Hmmm... I'll have to think about that. Maybe I'll pick up an extra audio orb at the pick 'n pull to play with...

Thanx!

must be nice to have a piece of ford equipment that works properly haha.

Yeah i have a friend with an 02 taurus with the same changer and his plays burnt CD's too. *shrug* As for other options, you can buy a converter box that allows you to use an aftermarket changer with the factory ford controls. I was gonna but a 10 disc pioneer changer and the box but the ipod and an afternoon of soldering proved the be the cheaper way

You can put the changer on the center console, thats how I have it and I did the same for my girlfriend because her's was skipping badly in the trunk after the change to the center console "problem fixed" no more skipping. It will require some cutting (plastic and steel) but its worth it.(at least to me)

Mine started skipping really bad, to the point you could not listen to a CD while driving practically. Opened it up and there were 4 silicone shock mounts and three of them were leaking silicone badly. Found some good mounts from a fellow V8er and all is well for the last two years.

And I think the not playing burnt CDs is either your burner or software, definitely not the CD player.

Not sure if I follow what you're saying, but I know you can somehow hook up a wire of some type to the back of aftermarket CD decks to run to the Ipod, it would look a lot nicer then the tape deck or the FM transmitter. So I guess my question is what you're talking about similar to this? I'm not to knowlegeable in the stereo department but would like to find a better way to play my Ipod through the stereo. Right now I do use the tape and it is fuzzy and driving me insane. If something like this is possible and could give me better quality sound and look better, I'd really like to do it, let me know.

What i did exactly was take the radio out of the dash and cut the red, white and black wires leading from the cassette player. The wires are as follows: red = audio right positive, white = audio left poisitve, black = ground for both the left and right. I then stripped and soldered these wires to a headphone extension cable from radio shack and installed the jack inside my center console. The only downside is that you have to have a tape in the cassette player if you want to use the new auxillary connection. Most of the hissing goes away since the signal is no longer going across a tape pickup. I think maybe a ground loop isolator or somethin of the sort could fix the rest of the hiss. But thats a project for later.
