Drive the car for 15 or 20 min, park for same, 15 or 20 min and it idles rough, dropped one cylinder, rev it up to 1500 or 2k for around a minute and it clears up and runs fine. Today I noticed a fuel smell that I hadnt noted previously. When it first started it happened once a month or 3 weeks. Now its doing it twice a week or more, sometimes twice a day. Is it possible to have an intermittent injector leak? I pulled codes and it wants 02 sensors. I would like to solve this problem w out having to buy new sensors at this time.

TIA.

If the fuel smell is underhood, could be the charcoal canister is full and/or the valve is plugged/blocked. Could try bypassing the valve to see if that solves the problem.

Leaking fuel injector. Run it then take the plugs out. Betting you'll get a heavy fuel odor out of one cylinder.

My Probe had a leaking injector that first appeared as a part throttle stumble at 3000 RPM's that eventually degraded to a hot re-start low idle misfire that would clear itself up after 30 seconds. Same exact symptoms that you're experiencing. Took the plugs out and as soon as the one with the bad injector was removed, a strong fuel odor followed.

Gas is pooling up in one of the cylinders, guaranteed. Oxygen sensor is reading the extra gas and reacting by leaning the fuel table. And the rough idle doesn't happen on cold starts because the gas leaks down overnight.

my thought also is that you have an injector that doesn't want to shut off. You likely also have a reduction in gas mileage that you might or might not have noticed yet. And if that is correct, the fuel trim lean-out that jimtash mentioned is happening, which is not good for your engine.

I'm having the same issue. After a turn from normal running temp it will idle rough when I restart. Clears up like OP stated. When Ruby said a drop in mileage, it hit me.

So based on what everyone has posted, what is the fix. I have already changed the charcoal box and vale. Still have a slight gassy/exhaust odor. Do I need a new set of injectors or figure out which one is bad and replace that one. I also have no clue how to figure that out. Pulling the plug I guess is one way. Any thought, help or suggestions are appreciated in advance.
